Defensive midfielder

We can have a list of 100 players. If Pep doesn't agree, it's irrelevant.
Pep said in December that with important players being out for weeks/months the team needs help in defense and holding midfield.
It's up to the club to deliver that help. Defenders have joined but no help in holding midfield has arrived.

I think we may convert stones to a cdm now that we've added 2 centerbacks so we can spend money on a proper midfielder in the summer. The season is as good as over so no need to panic buy someone that wouldn't make a difference anyways. Stones might be good enough to play there as well.
what will the plan be for the second half when Stones goes off injured?

Why is why I’m not paying too much attention to yesterdays reports

We really shouldn't make the mistake of not getting in midfielders in this window. Particularly if it's on the misapprehension that the answers are in the squad - Pep won't play youngsters there, doesn't trust players like Nunes and neither Stones (injuries) or Akanji/Gvardiol (form or experience in role). Neither of the 2 new CBs changes this situation.

Everyone can see that we've moved past a need for just deputising Rodri/alongside him and need a near enough full refresh. It's a broader pool of options.

He went on to say if we could, acknowledging the right player might not be possible. I’m coming around to thinking, Cambiaso will be the one we push for. Playing as an inverted rightback alongside whoever. Think he’s an ideal Pep right back.
Think that will be enough for top 4/5 and we go get our midfield target whoever that is in the summer.

The midfield situation is a concern, no doubt. What does the club do though, if the type of player they feel is suitable is unavailable this window?

Availability often comes down to fees - I find it difficult to believe that there aren't midfielders in the world that we could sign that would immediately improve our midfield. Bringing on Gundo just to save the legs of other midfielders who are flagging isn’t it.

Lots of posters seem to find it difficult to understand , but seems simple to me.Its quite likely the players we want as an 6/8 that are anywhere near good enough are vital to their teams whether in the CL, trying to be in the CL, or going for titles. Financially it makes no sense for them to sell now when they can use the player and probably sell for much the same fee in the summer.
Release clauses are an option but not sure any of those we may want with clause seem keen to move in January, if they were we’d probably have triggered one.

I agree about Gundogan, by and large been very ineffective. I think someone may arrive to bolster the midfield as it's obviously needed. However I think the club are very wary of a Kalvin Phillips situation. I think if push comes to shove we'll go with what we have rather than taking a gamble on someone now, as opposed to waiting until the summer when our preferred targets are likely more attainable.

Am feeling now we waiting for that June window what clubs in club World Cup are in can buy players to go for top notch midfielders then pep can work with them in that competition

But will they improve us? No one said that Nunes, Phillips or Grealish were absolute dross when we bought them but none can get a regular spot in midfield

It would be imposible to get top midfilder in june, because we will be with out UCL football for next season.
We need to sign this month CM/DM.

You can be as patronising as you want pal, but all you are stating is your opinion & guesswork, however you want to dress it up. As I stated above, it's moved behind just needing 1 6/8 hybrid as a Rodri cover/play alongside him - that's what we needed last summer, prior to Rodri's injury. If you don't think that there is a need to refresh the majority of midfield then I don’t know what you have been watching.

No it wouldnt many teams including us have great players without champions league. As it is I expect we’ll have it.

We need 2,but what that has to do with the right players being available now , I have no idea

I think City are stuck. They messed up with Kalvin and Nunes thats twice they've failed with a midfield signing. That perhaps now they are over thinking / looking for the perfect midfielder for the team instead of someone who can do a job. I reckon if Nunes and Kalvin were not failures in midfield we would've signed Douglas Luiz already.

Jauregizar, the Bilbao midfielder, would fit more into what we've been doing in January.

Highly rated in Spain.
