Andy Burnham | Manchester Mayor

Seems like a lot of unjustified hate or Burnham on here. Having read a bit more about it he’s not advocating public funds for a new rag stadium, just for investment in the area, and to be fair to him he has responded directly to people suggesting otherwise. It would be good if we could get more transport investment near our stadium such as a new railway station but I don’t think there’s any suggestion he isn’t supportive of that. Seems the people slagging him off are mostly disgruntled Tories or people who can’t recognise that he’s mayor of the whole of GM not just the blue half.
Righto, Mrs. Burnham. I’m sure your son is a lovely lad really.

What a ****! Can somebody open one of those online protests to get a proper vote in parliament? I have no idea how to start it.
Perhaps he could do something about “tent city” outside the Town Hall extension. It is a bloody eyesore and shames our great City.

He has encouraged it to happen by being soft on the “homeless”.

Still remember Burnham’s long deleted tweet chuckling along with his Evertonian mate about City being ‘a small club’. Around the time that game was called off when Arteta caught Covid
Always disliked us, despite filling his snout in the corporate seats trough on a regular basis
An absolute opportunist prick, parked himself in our city until he feels the time is right to strike for the Labour leadership
I remember his shameless hypocrisy and self interest around the Stafford hospital deaths scandal when he was health minister. Demanded a cover up to save his ministerial skin, while at the same time campaigning for openness and ‘justice’ for a certain club’s fans who might have lived in his then constituency and had some voting sway
An awful example of the worst kind of career politician and a human being - our city deserves much better
Spot on the man is a complete fraud.

Well, a freight terminal.
They’re already hoping to build the new freight terminal at Parkside colliery as it’s seven times the size of the TP one. That’s probably likely to happen so all it is is selling the unnecessary land, or part of it, to the rags. It shouldn’t need taxpayer funding for the TP part, although I don’t know how Parkside is funded - but that’s a national infrastructure issue.

It’s the modern world. Lots of people who aren’t clued up on the transport situation regarding trains in the North, who generally complain about the state of the trains in the North, and complain about nobody doing anything now complaining they don’t like the solution.

People are panicking over false information but I think it stems from when Scruffy Jim first mooted the idea of having taxpayer help to build a stadium, whether that’s what he meant or not, so I do understand it. And if any money IS given to them I’ll be the first to complain, I just don’t see it happening.

Maybe if Burnham hadn’t wasted tens of millions on a failed traffic congestion system, people might be more foregiving about the Labour treasure chest heading the rags way. Probably not since we hate the rags. Even Burnham’s encouraging work to help the homeless has gone tits up.

Part of the funding will benefit St Helens. Most of if it will help people who don’t pay a penny in Uk taxes. Salford RL asked their Council for years for help with the area surrounding the ground to the point where imvestors packed their bags and left. The Real Red Devils are pinning their hopes on a buy out to save them from oblivion.

There’s huge double standards from the Labour movement. The c**** who’ve been complicit in there never being a rugby league player getting a knighthood in the history of the game. Free Gear and his pals are no friends of the working class.
Scousers like Burnham are no friends of Manchester, although I hope he proves me wrong.

Seems like you’re proving @west didsblue right there tbh.

Is this supposed to be a positive thing in terms of best value for public money? "Lord Coe was involved in the transformation of Stratford in East London to host the London 2012 Olympics. The stadium is now the home of West Ham United."

Do you know what the initial cost of the London Olympics was? What the final cost was? What transforming the Olympic stadium to West Ham's stadium cost. The lease deal West Ham negotiated on the stadium? Google all that. It's an absolute eye opener. The Olympic Games was supposed to benefit the whole country financially and with jobs. Spin offs.. Did it? No it didn't. The actual games were a success. I'll admit that. Just like the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games were.

That's the same line Burnham and United are spinning about the new Wembley of the North.

It's nonsense. There are a couple of Freightliners a day that would not go through Oxford Road and Piccadilly that can delay passenger trains.
Oxford Road is being closed for two years to improve the station. The delays in passenger trains are in part due to the lay out of the train tracks, the turn back track, small platforms, old signaling, etc . It's basically a very busy bottleneck.

Feels very much like a politics type thread this one.

I’ll put @jrb on ignore, sorry mate I usually enjoy your posts, but it’s the only way I can avoid getting sucked in to this discussion.
You don't have to put me on ignore. :-( Just scroll past my posts. :-)

It’s more the nonsensical rubbish you get with political chat. For instance I don’t give a shit about Salford RL club or whether they survive or not, it has no relevance to this discussion.

It’s why I avoid the politics sub forum these days, but unfortunately you can’t hide individual threads, you have to hide the poster who started it.

Were they? I remember one fella but wasn’t he a bit dubious?

I think it was all very dubious but that wasn’t the point. I was responding to the accusation it’s tribalism & I don’t think it’s completely that, a small bias but not all.

I’m sick to death of politicians doing deals which benefit them rather than the people. Who is in the position of power in this negotiation? It’s not the Rags & it wasn’t MCC & Sport England when we did our deal.

Has anyone mentioned the transport infrastructure can be updated even if the Rags are left to fix the leaking roof at the swamp. A selfless politician would be saying fuck off unless we get land & future revenue to support it. There’s a reason Scruffy Jim has brought a lobbying group on board to get what they want by telling them how it helps them in the future. Well the UK needs money having given away all its assets over the last 50 years.
