Club Brugge (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

‘Am not convinced Savio can influence the game for 90 mins so agree with him not starting.
That 19 year old blonde fullback had phil in his pocket first half. So great sub and changes from pep.
We managed to keep the ball in the fridge as pep says in the last ten minutes thanks to Jonny Stones.
Don't care who we play next am looking forward to a great night under the Etihad floodlights. CTID,
Cranny your spot of the tactical genius that is Pep was spot on - yes Sabino can do any fullback once they have had a tough run of 45 mins and that is exactly what happened last night -
It’s like Making love to a Woman - start soft then ramp it up and you get three lovely bonuses Mmmmmm ! Well done City -Typical City !

That is the problem with fanbase

Win doesn’t mask glaring issues
Brugge is a weaker team

Real Madrid even at shittiest will tear this team with the hose old legs in midfield those who can’t see this are the ones who said Southampton Deserve to be up in the table bcoz we could barely hack a win against them
Brugge were undefeated in their last 20 league games. In that time City have lost ten games (using TNT stats). Last night was an excellent victory for a City team struggling for form and could be a season defining victory. So many here trying to play down the opposition / result.

Savinho changed the dynamics.
I am wondering when the opposition team is parking the bus infront of the goal and we passing the ball left and right, why not come up another way to penetrate or break their line? It is so boring to see our players keep passing and holding the ball without any threat.

Entitled to what?

Entitled to speak the truth as they saw it?

What's outrageous about that?
Self entitled supporters’ who believe City should just turn up and roll over opposition from supposedly weaker leagues.

All opposition should be respected and especially opponents on such a great run.

Of course everyone is entitled to express their feelings on the performance just as others are free to disagree with , what they perceive to be , over the top negativity

Article 32 Subsequent registration

32.01
After the completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registrations must be completed by 6 February 2025 (24:00 CET) at the latest.
My apologies. I thought the Knockout Phase meant Round of 16, which has been the traditional “knockout” phase, NOT this “Playoff Round” for the 9-24 clubs.

It appears the 9-24 games are, indeed, considered part of the Knockout Phase.

The language above is not that clear, but the date does suggest they are eligible. In addition, I read an article from the Sporting News about it…a snippet…

How many new players can be added to Champions League squads?

Teams can add a maximum of three new players to their List A squads. For some of the more active clubs in the market, this means potentially difficult decisions.

Manchester City beat Club Brugge to edge into the playoffs and will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. Pep Guardiola could add January signings Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.

Kova drawing on his inner Yaya for that goal. Made our luck for the second. Sav with an exquisite take down and finish. Pep getting the half time subs bang on.
We might be shit at times but we're still fucking good, when we get going.
COME ON CITY !
Love the Yaya reference. Spot on.

With the inevitable counter and one shot one goal.

I’ve often thought, if we insist on keeping the ball, then why not do it deeper in our own half and invite the other team out of their deep block? Hit the space over the top that Haaland loves to run onto and now marmoush and savi has good pace aswell. Pep insists he does not want to get into a transitional game because we don’t have the legs in midfield (even though he keeps selecting messers kdb and gundogan) in there. Then maybe a more route 1 style would help us with deep block teams. The way most teams set up against us now reminds of the rope a dope tactic, sit on the ropes, take a few blows and then bang! Counter and hurt us! It happens far too often for my liking and is extremely successful, So much so even the so called lesser teams adopt this strategy now. Pep might not like the transitional game but others do and deploy it against us because it works. But very often we play right into its hands.

I don't think we played that well but won and through and that is football
We will need a new holding midfield player in the next few days to face whoever in the playoff

Nobody will fancy playing us and we can give the best a game if we turn up
You can’t change the euro list until after the play off.

Very poor performance, We got the job done which is the main thing, Savinho has to get man of the match, We wouldn't have won that game without him.

Please, No more Gundogan and Kovacic as a pivot, That tonight has to be the last of them playing together.

Get more bodies in before the window closes and give this a go (preferably against Bayern).
I guess that’s what you would do in Football Manager25. Meanwhile back in the real world!

I am wondering if Marmoush can play in the knockout play-off

I have heard multiple stories so far
some people say he cant because it is still a play off even if it is knockout
some people say he can because it is knock out

ive been looking around but cant find info to back either claim up
You can’t change the euro list until after the play off. The regs are badly worded but play off is part of qualifying not part of the knock out phase.

I think you’ll find that the play offs are not considered part of the knock out phase.
