General transfer rumours

Palmer and Rodger's wouldn't be the players they are if we kept them sometimes a change of scenery a different manager changes the mentality of a player...

Yeah but other clubs do manage to get their academy kids to fulfil their potential without leaving.

It’s not easy to do, but if we end with Foden in the first team and 7 or 8 City starting quality players at other clubs then that aspect will have been a massive failure.

It’s ok for older players who want to a big pay day to finish their careers but any young players going over there are just mercenaries who go for the money .
To be fair, PL drain other less financially strong leagues of talent all the time by offering the players significant pay rises. Some people might convince themselves its because its the best league in the world (and it might be true in some cases) but the reality is probably that we would see significantly less talents move to the Premier League from Bundesliga/Serie A/La Liga (or smaller leagues) if the salary was the same. Footballers much like people in general will more often than not prefer the potential employer that offers a 5x higher salary.

Totally agree re: rogers, he’s become rounded by those experiences, have to disagree regarding palmer, he was way above what we got to observe in a city shirt because of established order, he had excelled at every level and wanted to fast track/back himself, couldn’t blame him, but look at what he did in his maiden season, it was already there, however he wasn’t prepared to be a bit part squad player and flourished, knowing fine well that Chelsea afforded him game time…. It would of happened if the expectations were different at city!

No rumour and probably been discussed but rogers looks like another that’s slipped through the net; testament to the standard of kids spawned from the academy, it’s reminiscent of Barca at its peak and the levels they’re playing at….

Palmer
Lavia
Rogers
olise
Bobb
Foden

Others missed I’m sure; we know the figures attached and hand forced in some instances but the ignorance of what our system has done for a decade is absurd…

Merely pointing out to the rogers one after last night, there will be more, but he’s exactly the type of player we are lacking, similar to Foden and potential to be on a par, he’s a little nastier than Phil in the tackle which we are also lacking…

Anyway, timing for the majority of that lot never synced due to the world class operators we already had, so never aligned, but it’s going to come full circle and hit us in the pocket, despite the revenue recouped!
Palmer was different, his talent was there and he went straight to Chelsea but Rogers had to drop down to Boro, impress there and then have a mediocre Villa take a gamble on him. He wasn't at the level to get a sniff of the bench for us. All the top academies can list of brilliant talents they let go that they'd then love to have a few years down the line, it's unavoidable and something we'll have to get used to.

That's not to say there's nothing we can do mind, I believe our selling policy needs to be looked at, we've not once benefitted from buy backs except to earn a few million on Angelino. I believe we need to be better at identifying the most likely successes and work on getting them long term contracts and good loans over rushing to sell and bank the decent profit. we seem to be really poor at getting players the right loans to flourish.

Unfortunately this is probably true because of Pep’s lack of trust in young players.

Nobody can argue with his record but I feel throughout the years…especially when we were beating teams by cricket scores, there were opportunities to blood some of the younger players and give them some encouragement plus a chance to see if they had enough about them to achieve the level required.

The result is that we are desperately short in the position that both Wright and O’Reilly play but Pep won’t trust them because they are either not good enough or he considers they have not got the experience.

This begs the question….what are they doing on the bench in the first place.

Bid in for Mitoma from a Saudi Club now.
They're hoovering up quicker a than a Dyson factory

Al Nassr offering £90m for Mitoma is a fucking joke.
He's an OK player but I think the first £54m bid that Brighton turned down is definitely a fair price for him, particularly at his age (27) At £90m (well, it's reportedly £65m up front with the rest in bonuses/add-ons), I'd drive him to the airport myself.

No.. he always gives the first half the season for the youngsters to make him trust him but after the turn of the new year.. if they haven't convinced them.. they don't get as many chances.

This has been repeated multiple times with Foden, Brahim, Tosin, Eric Garcia, Ferran, Delap, Palmer, Sergio Gomez, Rico, Bobb, McAtee and now Wright & O'Reilly.

Foden displaced Sterling after the lyon miss.
Eric was beloved by Pep but left for Barca
Rico displaced Cancelo due to ....
Bobb well..

Other than those 3, no one has truly grabbed their opportunity and Pep has given them many.. including in practice. And there's Bobb.. I think he grabbed the opportunity but he injured his leg.

As for Wright, O'Reilly & McAtee.. Wright had a bad game when he was tested earlier this season. McAtee had Feyenoord and O'Reilly hasn't really blown his trust but he himself doesn't trust himself to play DM (according to Pep).

Lol at the idea that Morgan Rogers is good enough to play for us.

Going from KDB to Rogers would be a bigger downgrade than prime Gundo to Nunes.

Being a good player for a decent Villa team doesn't make you a good player for one of the world's best.
