I'd say the reigning PL champions and the club with the highest UEFA coefficient finishing in 25th place or lower would definitely have been humiliating. There's no other way to describe it truthfully.

For me humiliating isn’t qualifying for the CL 14 years in a row. Qualifying for the knock outs 12 in a row. Reaching 2 CL finals in 3 years. Winning the CL as part of the treble. There’s an inevitability that at some point you won’t qualify for the competition or go out at the group/league phase, so if early elimination comes about off the back of that prior success - shit happens.

Humiliating for me is not qualifying altogether over several years after spending hundreds of millions to do so. Humiliating is when you’re the ‘biggest club in the world’ and you’re closer to the bottom 3 than qualifying for the tournament.

And having to rely on David Gill manipulating UEFA draws to get a chance of CL qualification by winning the Thursday night cup.

Fucking shameful if they finish 5th from bottom yet qualify for the CL.

And last time in the competition go out after finishing bottom of a group that included Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen

Sorry. I can’t agree. Disappointing yes certainly. Humiliating no. There are many reasons well rehearsed across this forum which explain why it nearly happened. I certainly wouldn’t have felt ashamed of my club if we went out which is what humiliated means. I respect you too much as a poster to get into a debate about it. Let’s leave it that we have different opinions.

Whether it's humiliating or not, isn't it fantastic that we're in a position these days that we could think that not getting into the last 16 might be classed as humiliating or even disappointing?

I don't care what other people feel like. We are all entitled to our opinion. My opinion is it's my club and I love it regardless of how successful we are.

I would not be embarrassed about elimination, nor would I feel humiliated. Disappointment rarely becomes an emotion either. Whatever happens I shall be walking up the spirals for the next game in whatever competition and whichever opponent, and my fervour will not be diminished by an adverse result.

they'll be queuing up (well the list needs updating - one or two are no longer with us)

A rogues gallery of aberrant cunts. Hopefully they'll get their comeuppance when we're found not guilty.

Humiliated isn’t the word, shocked, disappointed, embarrassed but it certainly isn’t a humiliation.
Probably the only word would have been disappointed. Anyway, that’s gone and it’s a knock out competition now and probably how the traditionalists see the European Cup. If l’pool can win it after being beaten three times, is that not embarrassing? Then maybe we can after possibly doing the same?

As GDM never tires of reminding us, barely a squeak in our defence from any of this lot. They inhabit every level of the media and most can be relied on to continue their disgraceful vendetta for another decade.

No offence taken, just unnecessary aggressive passive stuff. I've already provided you with a transcript of her speech - here is the reference to OT in the video 38 mins30 secs in, just point out the 'no funding of the stadium' bit - I must have missed it.

Strange that , I listened to it live on radio 5 live and I’m positive she said that no public money would go to the stadium?

Looking at that ,she clearly doesn’t say that in that clip , unless it’s edited or I am losing my mind !

Anyway ,it’s all smoke and mirrors ,the government in my opinion will not fund the building of the stadium .
