His defensive stats are actually mostly terrible.

Aerial duels - 42% win rate, shite for a 6'2 cdm
He's in the 97th percentile for aerial duels. Rodri is in the 86th.

Interceptions - 8 in 24 games - awful.
This could very well be play style related, he plays next to a classic ball winner who has a ton of interceptions. Rodri has 0.59 interceptions per game.

Clearances - 11 awful
Why would you want your DM to have high clearances? A clearance is defined as a long ass forward without a receiver. Rodri has a clearance rate of around 1 per game

He is good but does not have pace.
Last time I checked, when he was still at Barcelona, he was not that fast. Maybe his pace has improved, because then, he was still young.
Here's the Gemini answer for you: It's true Nico isn't a speed demon, but he has excellent playing speed. He's quick with his decisions, passing, and positioning, which is more important in City's system. He keeps the game flowing with his quick touches and smart movement, not by being a fast runner. Guardiola’s system relies on brains over pure speed, and that's where Nico excels.

Just been translating the Porto forum (transfer windows make us do funny things eh)

Quick summary - They all pretty much say he is their best player, they hope Porto don’t sell and think city will have to pay the clause for it to happen.

Judging by how highly most Porto fans rate him I’m fully onboard

Rodri is hardly fast. Many, along with myself called him plodri for months. Rodri is a lot like Yaya was, powerful with the ball at his feet but he isn’t the quickest to run back.

I’d be more focused what his positioning and tackling is like. We’ve been poor at winning the ball in the middle this season, hopefully he’s got a bit of bite to him as well.
Everyone wants pace, but then the best player in the world Rodri isn’t exactly a burner. We don’t need him to be the fastest player on the pitch. Just a damn good one

Yeh my mate I work with Vasco said he's not fast but technically good and never loses the ball.

Bluemoon knows more.

Hope this dithering and not wanting to pay the release clause doesn’t have some other team come sniffing and pay the required amount, window shuts Monday isn’t it so let’s see ..

Wouldn't worry about that . He'd want City and nobody else
