Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Another sobering thought. Scott Carson (our sub GK today) is two years OLDER than Joe Hart.
3rd keeper is always going to be a kid or a grandad. It's never going to be a worldie at their peak is it? You've basically got to hope for 2 players who rarely get injured to both do so at once just to get a game.

I can’t blame Pep, because the defenders didn’t turn up, but having spent so much on defenders, last week, why didn’t he bring at least one of them on before the damage was done? Hopefully they will get a run out against Leyton Orient next weekend, and maybe Ake and Dias will be fit again soon, without them we are doomed to mid-table
Or why didn’t we sign one that might have actually been able to slot in without 2 seasons of practice. A defensive midfielder might have a helped a bit too.

Another frustrating game. It's been a season of it hasn't it?!? It's weird. I didn't think that was a 5-1 drubbing. Shit start, got back into the game, and then just fell apart those last 25mins. We're still playing quite well in patches in most games, but then silly stupid errors are gifting chances and goals in almost every game. It's just not us, a normal confident us.

For some reason (maybe it's the loss of rodri and dias for a lot of games) we are weak and lacking confidence when we're under pressure...which is so surprising when u think of all the big pressure games we have won over the last 4 years. Maybe some of these guys are just mentally shot? I've probably said that a few times this season.

My head is telling me to just forget this season and look forward to a new improved city next season after we get some new blood in....but then there's the dreadful thought that maybe, just maybe, we've been found out and Pep won't have the answers anymore :-(

When Bernardo said "the team is in a dark place right now' after Spurs I couldn't imagine it would get this bad.

For an hour I thought we were the better team, and on a luckier afternoon we might have been a couple in front when Haaland deservedly (team, not him) equalised (2 very good saves from Raya, their goal was a little fortunate for me, poor touch from Akanji aside).

Then for 30 minutes we wouldn't have beaten the local primary school, and that should really worry Pep, it was a bloody shambles, not helped by his subs either.

Okay mate

You're the the manager what would you do?
I'd go more direct for me. We have wingers who want to run at players. Haaland who wants a ball played through the lines to run onto and we know 7 out of 10 he's finishing when 1 on 1.

That way we don't need 9 players camped on their box, when it breaks down our back 4 is almost a 4 depending if a full back has gone up or not.

Leave kev in the middle to play those balls as he's no legs. Move grealish into the middle. He can do the rodri role of receiving from the defenders on the half turn. Need someone to do the rodri defensive side of things but I'd have been in the market for one. Not sure why we didn't just get Douglas Luiz in on loan if he was available.

We need to give up the possession based tactic. We don't have the squad or player quality to succeed at it now, teams have now finally figured a counter for it after 6 years. Maybe why he dosent normally stay this long, as teams start to figure it out.

That's my thoughts

Frimpong is not a right back. He's more of winger who is suited for a 3 atb formation. We need an actual right back who can defend.

Yes. But the current RBs don't defend either. And he'd be a massive improvement on them going forward

Can't quite believe that, when I lived in Stoke Newington for a year, I used to go and watch these cunts, as the other local club was spuds (who I hated with a passion after '81 and all that).
Utter, insufferable knobheads they've become recently.

You can’t blame pep?
Play a back four when you know we are going to to be attacked ! Otherwise let everyone run over you like PSG Arsenal Brugge ( even though they didn’t win)

Cunts played Humble by Kendal Lamar at full time , they are absolutely obsessed with Haaland , Gabriel screaming in his face when they scored, don't know how he didn't retaliate today
That comment riled them up because they know deep down it's true. They're also-rans. A footnote to an era that us and to a lesser extent Liverpool have dominated. Chelsea have won a major trophy while they were celebrating top four. They've let another season slip when it was their time to be killers. This is their modern golden era and they have an FA cup to show for it. If Haaland never wins a trophy again he'll have more to show for it than any of those players that stay at Arsenal.

That new kid we’ve signed has his work cut out in this team , he’s got Billy Smarts Circus in front of him , and the reincarnation of Andy Dibble behind him , then add Nunes at right back and we look like Ashton United.

I agree, but if that's the case why not go shit or bust and try something different. I want to see something like Pep's first season when we knew we would win f all but he was playing Clichy as an inverted wingback and shit like that.

Changing the subject slightly - strangely sad to see Raheem go from the dynamic goalscoring trophy winning machine he was for us, to the Tarquins' mascot. Even sadder that he seems happy with that.
Never was a legend for us anyway, today cemented that. Raheem was the most frustrating player I’ve ever seen at the Etihad and I’ll let you know why, I remember even in his prime, he’d score a brace vs Bournemouth, but then would come up against a teenage Reece James or a 21 year old Wan Bussaka and be the worst player on the pitch 0 goals in 25 vs Man United btw. When you needed him to deliver, 90% of the time he’d freeze. That guy let us down in so many big games it’s actually crazy. KDB literally provided him with a career with the amount of tap ins he provided and then he had the audacity to ask the club on a raise on his 330k per week contract because KDB was on more than him.

There's a lot you could mention with the pass, pass, pass but I don't think they think on their feet enough if a good situation arises . E g. After a few passes someone is wide unmarked with a perfect couldn't be better opportunity to cross, but instead carries on passing and the move fizzles out a minute later.
It wastes 5 minutes ifor nothing and gives up a decen t attacking position.

Cant accept that is an effective way to play

We are trying to set up one player, who's first touch can match Eden's!
Sometimes he closes down the opposition, sometimes he doesn't.
What's becoming clear is that he's no Sergio.
He needs time to get upto speed, which means he's best on the counter.
We rightly want to control possession and our strength has been the quick recovery. That's not happening anymore and we have a show pony who either has a shot, or losses the ball.
So we need build a team that pick up the slack. That means buying some full backs of the highest quality which should include superb pace and stamina. JD, could easily play central midfield, but he isn't Davies, or Frimpong fast and that is what we need.
