Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

It’s scratch your head time with yesterday’s performance, I know what we have achieved with Pep & the team over the years, however, I do expect a bit of fight from everyone, tackles flying in (only Bernardo showed a bit) and players accepting responsibility.
We have thrown games away far too much this season but sadly little changes, everyone knows we have no legs then once the magical 60 minutes appear, that’s it then it’s capitulation time. Very worrying indeed
The most frustrating thing is once we got into the game after going 1-0 down and too the equaliser i thought we were comfortably the better side. Same as Sporting, Brentford, PSG...... the list is getting long.

For the majority of this season, basically since we first played Arsenal, the issue has been that the players we have for various reasons have not been good enough. We have been desperately waiting for January so that we can bring in fresh players in midfield and defence because Pep has played the same 11/12 players over and over and over again until they couldnt move.

What has ended up happening though is that (Marmoush excluded) we have signed players that are of an age profile that Pep simply wont use them in an important game meaning the same issue of having to use the same players over and over again is still there. Nothing has actually changed!!

Khusanov and Reis if we werent playing Leyton Orient this week probably wouldnt play another game for us until maybe April when you look at the fixtures.

huge revamp needed, current set of players about more than 50% of them is past their best. I think we got whatever was worth getting out of the likes Ederson,Akanji, Bernardo, Stones, Grealish not mentioning the veterans we kept too long. fucking hell if Walker doesnt have the personal drama of parallel wives and kids he doesnt ask for a change of scenery and we would still start him most weeks probably even next season. nonsense.

not enough fitness left and stamina and neither hunger imo in lot of our players. they won it all, in a spectacular way with treble and 4inarow. some of them got comfortable enough with this. but the world doesnt stop others want our trophies and ready to fight and run harder to get them and thats what we see this season.

the way we lost 50/50s vs PSG and Arsenal the way we chicken out of tackles or dont race for second balls says it all. we are even slow to make tactical fouls.
we are older, slower version of ourselves with less hunger thats a recipe for some more shit.
this is gonna be worse next season unless serious mega recruitment replacing lots of players.

For some of the recruitment failings within the team, this is another avoidable collapse from a good position.

We seem intent on finding ways to make difficult games near impossible through sheer stupidity. In the last two weeks we've ceded momentum in games to Brentford, PSG & Arsenal yesterday.

At 1-1 the pressure should transfer to them - we concede within 30 seconds of the restart through ineptitude. PSG were flapping at 2-0, we give them a gift.

My major frustration is we put ourselves in positions to win/draw these games and then blow it up. It would be easier to handle getting beaten convincingly from the outset! You even contemplate some base strategy like just smashing it in the corners for five minutes, or feigning an injury just so we manage the temperature of the game.

A new midfielder would be a big boost for the rest of the season - it may just allow us to get this bit of control back and stop these old CL style blow ups. If we could just get Ake & Dias back for a run of games it would help - the second frustration is turning up to play these big games with patchwork defences.

Too many guys bought in the last few seasons who can look good for a game and a half but then disappear for the next 3 games, too many lacking the consistency required for a top level team.
Akanji is incapable of marshalling a defence when he doesn't have a top class defender beside him. This is a guy that Dortmund didn't think was good enough for their defence, he got by in his 1st season because the players around him were outstanding...true level now being shown. Look at him for their 3rd, turning his back on the shot. He has been dog shit all season yet has managed to escape the Walkeresque levels of criticism.
Phil Foden has been so poor this season, after us working so hard to get level yesterday for him to gift them a 2nd immediately was criminal. He may have scored some goals of late but his overall contribution remains well below par.
Disappointed with Stones as well yesterday, what was he doing with that ridiculous arse out knee first pose for their 2nd? Block the fucking shot properly.
That midfield too....jeez...a problem waiting to happen at the start of this season and boy, has it happened.
As for the Arse...what a bunch of twats. They don't get the "stay humble" thing do they? That young guy, flat nose, doing the Haaland thing...he's too thick to get it too...don't mock others until you've actually earned it, until you've won something...Erl has won a CL, 2 titles in the last 2 years and you have won piss all and will win piss all this season....so try and stay humble until that changes then you can start rubbing it in. Clown.

Not had time to read much of the thread so some of this may have been said already. However, just had a polite but insufferably smug text from an Arsenal-supporting friend of mine. Normally I'd send a somewhat petulant reply slating her club but she's basically a lovely person in her late fifties who was widowed unexpectedly last year and I'm taking pity. Still want to write it, though, so it goes here even if it doesn't have much value for the discussion.

When we equalised, I was reasonably happy. Was gutted that we gifted them a goal start but we grew into the game a bit and, apart from almost presenting them with a golden chance for a second that Havertz missed, I thought we looked sort of OK. At least we forced their keeper inro some decent saves before levelling it up. Then we immediately and unforgivably gave them another gift, followed by a dismal collapse. Awful. Gutted that we allowed those Tarquin twats to win with a scoreline that makes them look much better than they really are.

Comical that not only the risibly deluded set of fans but the club as a whole, including the players, seem to have been triggered by the "be humble" comment while clearly misunderstanding what it meant. They've celebrated beating us as if they've won a treble when they're highly likely to finish the campaign empty handed, despite laughable attempts to mask lavish spending with whining pleas of poverty.

Arsenal love nothing more than to bleat about what class they believe they have. Quite something for an all fur coat and no knickers outfit that owes everything it's ever achieved to Henry Norris's lies, deceit, chicanery and criminality while being English football's original despised franchise club. Football aristocracy? Don't make us laugh. At heart you're still the Woolwich Nomads, Charlton Athletic's slightly less popular forerunner.

Well, City might be down at the moment but we're not out. When we compete the rebuild we've started in this window, we'll be back to show you what Haaland's words meant. Deep down, you and we both know that we'll win the title again before you do.

In the meantime, you continue to shit the bed when it matters like you did in the FA Cup against the team placed 13th in the Premier League. When it comes to serial bottling, you're every bit as bad as that other bunch of North London jokers into whose territory you inveigled your way all those years ago. But, at the same time, you're so obnoxious, you're achieving the almost impossible by making me hope Liverpool win the title.

TL, DR - We were crap yesterday. But fuck off, Arsenal!

So he’s saying the players decided to do something different to what he told them? They took it upon themselves to deviate from his game plan/tactics?

This has shades of Munich, if the players are not listening to him and doing things themselves, against his say so then there is huge problems. Sounds like Hes on the verge of losing the dressing room.
I said yesterday post match that I wondered if he had lost the 'locker' room.

Surely experienced pro players should be allowed to express themselves on the pitch. Or is that not how it works nowadays?

I know I am fed up of slow, turgid side to side back to side back play without anyone driving through or attempting a shot. If those are the ' tactics' I can completely understand throwing them off! Unfortunately the defence is gash, and unless I was watching a different game yesterday I didn't notice an abandonment of Pep tactics. And we lost.

Arse really are shit houses though, Skelly and Partey both for different reasons should never have been on that pitch. And as for that Gabriel why doesn't Erling risk a ban and just nut him one, or actually tackle and cause a serious injury?? He is a grade A shyster and has it coming to him - just behind the queue of Rudiger and Andy Robinson in my list of most horrendous for whom karma can't come soon enough....

Giving Foden a 4 is a joke. He was the reason we lost. Shocking on the ball all game. He looked shit scared. Also shit performance in a big game aside, If he doesn’t make that stupid pass to Partey 20 fucking seconds after we scored, we, I know this sounds crazy, we could’ve won. We we were brilliant for 20 minutes of the second half. He killed our confidence with that. Foden deserves the lowest score possible.
Foden worries me. I can't see desire in his play. He made a mistake, anyone can do that but his lack of urgency to do something about his mistake is something I can't except. He had no chance of getting to Partey to stop him shooting but there was no desire to do so and no hands up to his teammates for his mistake. He will never take the game by the scruff of the neck as Kevin used to. I had hopes he would be Kevins successer for us but there is no way. I know his size doesn't help and he gets bullied to easily but still.

Too fucking often this season we’ve conceded straight after scoring and then another one straight after that and lose all control. We need to do something about that.
Don’t want to be that team but we maybe need to do an arsenal and get the goalie to drop with a fake injury or make a sub or something just to stop the game for a minute or so.
We were well in it yesterday til Phil’s brain fart.

The crazy thing Foden might actually be more technically gifted than KDB, but he doesn’t have the mentality and desire to win that KDB did. Foden never had any adversity at club level. You have to remember KDB was ridiculed a lot when he came to England “Chelsea reject” “Kevin who” etc. so he always had a chip on his shoulder. That gave him the motivation to become, well my, profile name

He's still quite young even though he's a senior player so we need to be carefull about apportioning full blame. So many mistakes were made yesterday by nearly everyone. Phil is superb going forward but in a defensive position when under pressure this time he failed. I've seen him in the past not lose the ball from from a similar position. Pep is relying on him to possess the ball and find someone who is free. But, in our present circumstances the rule from Pep ought to be that if the player in possession is in any doubt at all then get rid out of danger or into touch. But Pep doesn't allow for that. Against Chelsea We all saw Khusanov could have cleared the ball for their first goal. But it was ingrained into him even at this early stage not to clear his lines. Sometimes clearing the ball means we can set up better and at least we wouldn't have been a goal down.
Mistakes can be rectified. These are players who won everything and game management was huge. We should have managed that game better yesterday. Who knows after Arsenal pressure we may have regained possession and gone on to score..

We are so weak in middle regardless of combo Pep persists in trying to play. Phil, Bernardo and Kova really are soft as shite sadly

I was hoping for something like 80/81 season. We brought in 3 seasoned pros who hit the ground running. Gow, McDonald and Hutchison. The first two immediately stabilised the defence and the last added some flair up front.
We've got Marmoush but the fullback and midfield general are still missing.

I personally thought Foden tried to hard after the mistake and was abit of a headless chicken. He is still young and learning apart from the pass which we could all see wasn't on I thought he was OK

Buckle in lads, Real Madrid and this next month is going to be very, very painful. Lets not let the win v Chelsea hide the fact we have been absolutely rubbish this season.

Arsenal will win as much as us this season. Zero.

Hopefully we can bumble our way into the top 5 then get this absolute shit show sorted in the summer and start to see the new team in the WCC ready for next season and get us back competing on all fronts.

We also look shite first ten mins in every game against a decent (or any sort of side). Surely we know what's coming first ten minutes.. I blame the training. Every clip its our players walking around juggling the ball in gloves and woolly hats or walking pace Rondos!!!!! Never gonna address anything just doing that ha ha
