That said, you are absolutely right that NG can't save the season. The idea that putting a talented player from Porto in midfield would instantly transform our game is daft. I want him, but miracles shouldn't be expected.

I said it last week and I'll say it again; Rodri needed about 18 months to get up to speed and start shifting the Plodri tag our resident gobshites had given him.

It is the hardest role to get to grips with in our team. We were blessed to have a future Balon d'Or winner replace Fernandinho. But going from a defensive team with a double pivot or, in Gonzalez case, playing as a box to box CM, to being the entire brain and heart of a Pep team is always going to require time and patience.
