It's killing me watching the ghost of Kev chasing shadows. Absolutely killing me. I don't want my last memory of this phenomenal footballer to be these last few games. Let him rest up and get this hernia right so he can finish off with a flourish.
 
I just wonder what the coach team saw in the training to pick Kev of current physical state a good sub option to come on. Why not just wave a white flag?

He is a good player and does not deserve this kind of humiliation.

He’s not what he was, but Still the greatest player in PL history. By the middle of his second season at City (Early 2017), he was the main man in this team, and remained that way until Rodri took over some point in 2023. He was the main man, the one we all needed to deliver for us, the star, at this club for as long as Aguero, Silva and Yaya were combined and those 3 were truly world class for us. That’s how great KDB was. GOAT

Looks like he's in pain just jogging about. He can still contribute flashes of brilliance but they are too sporadic for us to carry him at the moment. Especially as Phil is offering nothing off the ball at the moment either. Not sure what the solution is, nobody wants this to be the end of Kevin. He's been utterly phenomenal for this club, but we can't pay Ballon D'or wages for another season like this one.
 
They’ve all been pretty shocking the last couple of matches but Kev was instrumental in the Ipswich and Brentford matches last month. He’s still got the creativity in him. Think we all need to try to take the emotion out of it a bit and recognise he’s still got a lot to offer the team - in a different way. He’s no longer tearing up the pitch, let’s accept it. But I for one think we need him next year.

I see it the opposite way, I think we need to let him go to move on - as fans we all think 'maybe if Kev comes on he'll make something happen' and the players will think the same. It's bound to be difficult when he goes but it's time for some new heroes to start to emerge

It's going to be gut wrenching but I don't feel we can say, you've been great for us for a decade, given everything to us, now would you mind taking a 66% pay cut for a year so we can use you as a bit part player. Just can't see it. I think he gets a mega contract to be the face of New York City and we go all out for one of the young Germans.

Yeah I can see this too mate. Maybe I need to let go! If this season hadn’t been such a shocker, I think I’d feel differently.

replacing him is very difficult along with Gundogan in one window, I don't think we will be able to sign 2 high caliber midfielders in one window. I would give him a one-year contract

As harsh as it sounds, neither are high calibre anymore. The game is too fast for the current version of Gundo and De Bruyne won't put up with being a bench option. Bernardo provides the continuity to that team & he'll likely be playing his different role of shuttler.
 
For me de bruyne will stay, is he a year off a testimonial? surely we arnt gonna let him miss that? I don’t mind him being a backup player or league cup/facup, he’s still
Got quality in his legs, just not the stamina, but I think he’s going to have to accept bit part role if he’s to stay with us. I think gundog is finished unfortunately. Bernardo I’m unsure about, I still see a player that can be useful for us.

Need to replace Kev but let’s face it you’re not really having to replace the real Gundo. He left us over 18 months ago. You’ve got about 4 already once everyone is fit who can do what the great man does these days.
 
KDB looked very good at the start of the season before the injury against Inter. I feel like he has not fully recovered from the injury and is also not yet fully fit.
 
If the midfield behind him is more combative he can still perform for us. The issue at the moment is he's generally playing in a side that can't dominate the ball and where our attacking players are having to run back to the defensive third because we're incapable of recovering the ball high up the pitch. That's not going to be the case forever. We will get back to controlling games, pinning the opposition in and there's still a role for De Bruyne to find the pockets of space and deliver the quality he has.

He's nowhere near the player he once was, but I still think an extra season would be worthwhile and helps any new player transition into the side.

I think he'll want two years though and we shouldn't be offering that.
