EFL Cup | Semi-Finals | 7/8 Jan & 5/6 Feb '25

Fucking hell, they’re going to regret this stay humble reaction. They’ve added so much pressure on themselves to win a trophy.
It just looks so much worse because they're essentially 9 points behind Liverpool. The pressure on the Champions League will be immense.

Beating us this season just wasn't the achievement they wanted it to be. Any half decent physical side has turned us over in the last 3 months.

I think you're misjudging the expectations at Arsenal this season. We know we won't win the league and we won't win the CL. The board therefore decided no point to push out the boat and sign a striker at a high price in the winter window - instead we'll wait for summer when we have Zubimendi coming in, they're triggering Williams' release clause at Bilbao, Sesko's coming in and supposedly Lautoro Martinez from Inter.

So getting top 4 is the priority hence the points against City, a top 4 rival are vital. Martinez did his hammy tonight, Saka isn't back until March/April so we are effectively one injury to Havertz/Trossard away from playing Sterling as a striker. Therefore any points we can rack up now are vital as we might not be equipped to do so later.

Next season we can challenge Liverpool for the title and we'll see what kind of team City has by then to challenge as well although that rebuild is I guess a bit of an unknown quality for now.

Win, loss, draw against us you'd have walked top 4, the league has been pretty much set for 2 months now. Liverpool 1st, Arsenal 2nd, 4 teams then fighting for the final 3 spots, as CL is almost certainly going to be top 5.

Whilst I don't doubt Arsenal have their issues, they will still comfortably finish top 5, which means falling out of the trophy equation is just poor. The transfer market has been bizarre, almost made your own problems, nearly as bad as us. The league was wide open for the taking and you guys just haven't done enough. You're crying out for a striker and it's been ignored for 2 windows, I don't believe they genuinely thought that bid for Watkins would be accepted.
