Anyone worried?

A mantra I try to follow to the letter mate, if I can't afford it then I don't buy it. I only acquired the ability to pay by card a year ago and I have only used it twice and that was at the football.

Even then it's a top up card that has money loaded into it that I can't go over with.
I think I have a credit card, I think it's the wifes with my name on it, I think it has a £12 k limit. I'm sure you can now guess I've never used it.

My missus watches a programme about wedding dresses, and what some people spend on them (and weddings) is eye-watering, especially in an age when divorce is commonplace.

There's a shit ton of money in this country. Next time you're in town, look at all the expensive restaurants. Are they empty? Don't think so. Look at the cars being driven about.

Now, you can argue that wealth isn't shared out fairly and that some people are living on buttons. True. I can think of people I know like that. But that's the system we have chosen with our votes over 40-odd years. And if anyone thinks Reform will level this out, well, I have a bridge to sell you. A really nice one with lifting bits.

Exactly

I've never been busier at work, all trades have never been busier. I'm absolutely sure there are people out there struggling but it's nowhere near the state the media would have you believe.

I love living here. It's a fantastic country full of opportunities and is still absolutely safe if you're careful, like anywhere else in the world! I've never been stabbed, always had work, and my child gets a free education that compared to most of the world is fantastic.

Ditch Social Media and stop watching the news. Spend within your means and don't compare yourself to others. Just do your own thing. Find hobbies that cost little, keep yourself healthy, learn to cook avoid politics.

Get out of the inner city for a few hours a week and into the countryside. We as a nation still have some of the most amazing national parks in the world.

If people would start with this and work from there...........with a bit of hard work as well, I'm pretty certain life would improve.

It may take a little time, but I'm positive for me and I suspect for Chicago, that the effort and hardship has all been worth it.

If you only want everything 'now', then you are always going to struggle.

Concentrate of what you HAVE, not what you DON'T HAVE and you'll find life a lot easier.

Why are you so arsed about 'the economy'?
Does the GDP, national debt etc really have that much effect on your life because it doesn't in mine. Interest rates on my savings is about the only direct consequence of the national economy that touches me.

Off the top of my head, a decent economy means more tax receipts into the government and therefore better services. More doctors, better paid doctors so we don’t lose them to counties such as Canada and Australia, shorter wait times and better health outcomes.

I knew a local bank manager back in the day who told me that the flashiest people in the neighbourhood had the biggest overdrafts…..

I get what you are saying and agree to some extent. There is a dire shortage of decent tradesmen in this country which in part accounts for why you are busy. There is plenty of money floating about.

But on the other hand take a look at the eye-watering benefits bill we now have (which you are contributing towards with your tax payments) and the huge increases in food bank usage.

In fact one of the best metrics to measure Labour’s performance over this government would be to see how much they can reduce food bank referrals.

See page 4 for growth of food bank usage over the course of the Conservative governments. Huge benefit bill, huge food bank usage. Summat ain’t right.

Ha! That reminded me of something from the past.

Years ago I worked part time in a rural pub.

On a Thursday morning, a local shoot would come in, have breakfast, then head off for a days pheasant shooting, before returning late in afternoon for dinner.

One guy named Chris would turn up in various vehicles, a Porsche for a while, then a Ferarri and the next shooting season in a different exotic and very expensive vehicle.

I mentioned to the pub owner one day that this guy must have some money to be able to afford all these cars. As an impressionable youngster I was surprised when she said, "Don't believe what you see, I wouldn't accept a cheque for £100 off him, he doesn't have any money!!"

I suspect a lot of people live like that to one degree or another.

Hmm thats not wealth though, thats consumption which many people seem quite happy to service with credit cards and overdrafts, just to maintain an image.

place has been pretty much the same all my life, scrotes, dossers, on the streets, shit public transport, chancers in government, job security not 100%.

Always been a 50/50 crappy/happy place.

If I,wasn't saddled with debt would I leave and move to somewhere else and start afresh?

yeah probably, only family and city keep me here if honest
