Andrea Cambiaso

All was well & we were two goals up & comfortable until Walker succumbed to his injury & had to be substituted. Camcelo moved from LB to RB replacing Walker, with Zinchenko coming on in the final minutes.

Okay, you take it from here & tell me where the goals came from. I'll wait...

I've watched that countless times.. Ruben leads the defensive line upfield after the clear.. Cancelo panics over the cross and plays Madrid onside, Rodrygo scores.

Edit: That one really bugs me because we had a team that could have won 4 CL's in a row but we shot ourselves in the foot 3 times.

Rodrygo scores from where & which side?
Haven't seen it in about 2 years but if I remember correctly..

Cross comes in from our left side (I think it was Grealish that was supposed to block it)??

But when Ruben led the line upfield to play the offside trap, Cancelo panics over Benzema running in behind, tracks back plays him onside and Benzema squares it, Rodrygo tap in.

Apologies if I'm wrong.. but I have PTSD about that comeback. We got 93:20'ed in a way!

Mate, Real targeted Zinchenko on our left as soon as Walker went off. 25 minutes later we lost an aggregate 2 goal lead & Real scored effectively the winner right before the final whistle for extra time. Zinchenko's arrival signalled our total collapse.

Now how's Zinchenko doing at ArseAnal in either his CAM role or LB?

Zinchenko was always a problem for us. Was lucky to be in the side tbh. We had arsenal’s pants down big time

The versatility factor made sense when deliberately operating with a small squad, but now that we appear to be moving on from that policy, specialist fullbacks might once again be de rigueur.

I fuckin hope so! We won the CL with a defence made up of Central defenders which justified Pep's tactic, but it's never sat right with me. We may have gained in one respect, but we lost in terms of attacking, overlapping FB's who worked devastatingly well with inverted wingers.

This is part of the basics I think we need to return to as part of our big reset. Our current tactics have been sussed & don't work without the supreme Rodri, so we need to keep evolving to keep the opposition guessing.

I long for the return of combination plays between wingers & FB's which led to cutbacks from the byline, that few teams could stop. It's what we became known for, but Haaland being a different type of striker made us change our approach play to get the best out of him.

When it works, it's devastating to see. When it doesn't, we look one paced & totally clueless. We have to strike a balance & become more flexible in our attacking philosophy.

I always thought it worked well in the League because you could dominate possession and strangle the opposition, particularly weaker teams. In one-off competitions, however, particularly in Europe, it carried a higher risk, and if a team had pace out wide, then the chances of us winning were slimmer. I look at the bigger clubs in Europe now and they all have blistering pace in attack, and no longer just one player but often 3-4. You simply can't stop with that with one Kyle Walker, never mind a Nunes, and certainly not with a Zinchenko/Delph.
