Running thread

Maybe you've had your fill of marathons and road running. How about trails, fell running or hill walking? Munro bagging?
Instead of pace and time being the objective using running to get fit to explore the great outdoors?

Or another sport? Cycling, mountain biking, kayaking or even tennis? Emma Raducanu for example came from a poor background. She was a runner and wanted to take up kayaking but could not afford the equipment. So, Emma never Raducanu.
Emma radacanu hahaha

I'm off soon to play my 1st five-a side match of the new year having been unavailable for the last two weeks ...I've done no running since the 18th Jan and that was a very short 2 circuit dash on my fav course ....

I know full well, at my age ,playing without training is asking for trouble,
but I've struggled post Xmas, for determination and enthusiasm ,easy to blame cold weather and " I don't fancy it today etc...any excuse has been the right one ..
hoping to avoid Injury, and going early to have a decent warm up....
I plan to stay in defence and resist the urge to make any lung busting runs from the back to score ....lol
Playing in my usual " Ya Ya Toure " 2011/12 black and red away strip ...this will be more of a kolo Toure performance I hope...

The northern soul classic " Here I go again " is already bouncing round my head! ( Archie Bell and the Drells )

Footy last night went well...by that I mean no Injury 1st game back
I coasted thru much of the game having arrived ten mins late with the score still at 0-0 , I had no chance for the planned warm up ,and had to get straight into the game. ...a mediocre performance from me,ended up left wing most of the time, we won 6-3 ,I think ,in the end ,largely due to West ham Gaz smashing a load of goals from all different angles ,the lad was on fire and must have had his weetabix...
It was a freezing cold night with a slippery surface ,loads if mistakes from all players except the two keepers who were ,imo, outstanding .
It was a good game of footy ,played in great spirit

I finally made my mark in the game, after hitting the post earlier .....in the very last minute when ,out of more frustration than anything else ,from distance I let fly with a left foot toe poke ,which flew past a very good keeper into the top right hand corner.!! A brilliant goal!, nobody was more surprised than me ,as my left foot toepokes generally go low into either corner so keeper struggles to get down to it..

Maybe the keeper was caught out by my fluke shot, but it looked good and was the last kick of the game so I was buzzing !

Need to get out running soon to prepare properly for the next match....
If selected.....

In my defence I did run before work and at dinner time, ok so it was a poxy 4 miles each run but it still counts right?
Struggling with the mojo this year tbh honest mate, have changed jobs from working 10/12 hours a day 7 days a week to a more "relaxed" pace job and it's fucked me, putting up with unskilled middle management and box tickers day in day out bores the shit out of me, I is losing me bite in this game, needs to find a way to fuel the fire again as I just can't be arsed

Got to be trails mate. Peak District on your doorstep, loads of great races and a change of environment, type of ground conditions, a completely different challenge.

I think it’s a bit more ‘real’ than road running. I’ve just completed the Bergamo half, and although I really enjoyed it getting a bit muddy, a few hills, less serious people I find more rewarding.

Also my everyday runs love getting away from people and running through woods, country parks etc without having to worry about pedestrians/road crossings etc.

Just throwing my review out there for the Novablast 5's, in case anyone is considering. I have 2 pairs, over 100km on one pair and about 60km on the other and they're already starting to lose that 'bounce' for me. So pretty much useless for anything faster than tempo pace. Pretty shocking considering it took about 600km in my Novablast 3's. They'll be demoted to easy run/long run status from now on. I'm nearly 6ft 5, so a heavier runner by size alone, so that of course will impact it.

Looking like I'll have to get some Pro 4's and demote my Pro 3's to training. Considering the Deviate Nitro 3's as well.

I’ve just always bought Asics, cheap ish ones and never had a problem - I have about 7 pairs and swap them round for runs every few days

Same here mate, the latest Novas are shite, think ASICS went to soft on the foam and they just don't feel like any of the other novablast, I've had everyone of them and the latest ones are crap.
The pumas are where it's at if you can get a pair

Yeah they've gone way too far on comfort. I have the first version of the Superblasts and they feel a bit like that, no pop to them.

Gone with some Pro 4's, so I can demote my Pro3's and some Deviate Nitro 3's. More trainers in the cupboard, the missus will be thrilled!

Yeah I think Asics are having a bad 12 months with new trainers, at least in my experience.

Although the missus has Gel Kayanos for overpronation and I think they've been good.

Yeh I've a pair of superblast 2 that have lost any point after about 400km

Did you get the nitro elite 3 or just the nitro 3? I've had both the nitro elite 1 and 2 and they have both been superb....they don't last long though

Pro4 I got a pair before Xmas that I won in a comp, I've tried them for one 5k and they seem decent, now saving them until/if I ever get fit again
