It was a shame, the tension was there on the straps, just some blue overstrapping holding it onto the yellow bases. With string wind though and the size of the beam not surprised the called off the lift.I've cropped quite a bit of the screen grab off and lightened it to get a better picture of the whole roof beam.
Apologies about the exit bit in the picture.

The players in the Mercer era were certainly on a crowd bonus. I recall an article in the Evening News identifying the wages that City players would be getting. Basic pay remained very low and it was only five years or so after the end of the maximum wage of £20 per week. This was usually just above the average industrial wage (then around £15).Funny you should mention crowd bonuses because I started going properly with my dad tbe 2nd division champions year 65/66 but my dad used to llaugh as the players ran out and looked behind them into the stands and hed say they're checking to see how many are in. Mike Summerbee was very big on it! Was never sure whether it was a joke but the crowd bonus must have been real !
It’s probably been answered back in this thread but when will it be finished with bums on seats - start of the 25/26 season?
I’m aware the hotel will be finished later on

Thanks very interesting. The players in the Mercer era were certainly on a crowd bonus. I recall an article in the Evening News identifying the wages that City players would be getting. The basic pay at City was around £20 per week and that would have a £2 win bonus (and a smaller £1 draw bonus). The biggest element was the crowd bonus based on how far above the assumed base attendance (20,000?) turned up. It estimated that the players could be earning more than £100 per week in the event of a 40,000 plus crowd. I assume that there must have been additional bonuses for League position and winning trophies and promotion?
City did get some big crowds in the 1965-66 season including 47,171 against Huddersfield Town on New Years Day and 52,661 for an FA Cup Third Round replay against Blackpool on a Monday night. There were other 40,000 plus crowds including 43,104 for Bury at home on Good Friday but the biggest attendances were in the Fifth and Sixth Rounds in the FA Cup with 56,787 for Leicester and 63,034 for Everton.
The reported crowds looked fairly accurate to me in the 1960s. However the same could not be said of the period from 1971 onwards. I can't think what changed?
The two halves of the roof beam need to be welded together before it can be lifted into position. I'm guessing that this is one of the two central beams as there's a lot of structure down at the far end where it'll support the roof walk structure.View attachment 146158

Sisk (the builders) saying November '25. At least in public. The club saying end of the year '25. There is word that internally, they are all aiming for August this year, limited to the stand with the full offering to come later.
So, kind of up to you what you go with. Officially, nov/dec, unofficially, you can hope for the start of the season if you want to.
August is ambitious, and even if it did get deemed complete by then , I would think the testing of it in small capacity wouldn't mean it will be open open until 2026 anywaySisk (the builders) saying November '25. There would be nowhere to put it though. None of the props are up yet, and the quadpods aren't complete for cables to take the load either. It was a shame, the tension was there on the straps, just some blue overstrapping holding it onto the yellow bases. Could it be that when ssskies arrived the beam had just been offloaded from a wagon rather than being prepared for a lift? There would be nowhere to put it though. None of the props are up yet, and the quadpods aren't complete for cables to take the load either.
Thats interesting mate. Any word on dates for the rest?Sisk (the builders) saying November '25. At least in public. The club saying end of the year '25. There is word that internally, they are all aiming for August this year, limited to the stand with the full offering to come later.
