He wasn't very poor. It was his 2nd full game after 2 months out. He was good on the ball, but made it a bit more risky than necessary. Should have passed the ball to Ortega, not to Akanji.

We were a bit arrogant on the ball and got punished. Arsenal have the energy and aggression to press really well. Without Rodri we were going to be vulnerable, should have been more reasonable in our build up play. Hopefully those mistakes will help us avoid mistakes vs Real.
He played a role in at least 3 of those goals yesterday, the pass, tracking back when someone has a clear shot on goal, turning his back around.

This goal? He's turned as he's tried to block it? What's the turn got to do with anything?

That goal just sums us up defensively. Foden does nothing at all to pressure the ball when its played out wide which allows for a simple ball inside to skelly. You then have Marmoush and Bernardo who just fucking stand and watch as he gets the ball and then Stones who could be quicker to close the shot down. We are lazy and show no desire at all to stop the chance and the outcome is exactly what we keep seeing.

Yep. Lazy defending. Foden is one of the worst culprits in the side for this.

Lovely passer of the ball, but defensively he's never been good enough unless Ruben is there alongside him. Akanji obviously doesn't inspire confidence in anyone, but Stones us a very senior player now, he shouldn't need his hand held

Nunes as well looking half interested (well not even that much) as usual - seems to set the tone for half the squad these days

Stones shit out of trying to block the first and second goals. First goal he stuck his left leg and turned sideways on to watch the ball hit the net. Second goal he turned his back completely and the ball deflected off his back to then hit the net. Had he squared up for both goals with a bit of bravery in trying to block the ball we probably wouldn't have conceded.

A defender is there to defend the ball with their body face and bollocks, not turn their back like a shit house coward. Imagine a keeper turning their back on a shot? No I can't either. Stonesey let us down big time yesterday.

It's like what makes a defender a defender is being rewritten right in front of us all because certain people feel Stones can do no wrong. Let that be Kyle, Akanji or Phillips and ALL hell would break loose. It's just silly protecting professional footballers from VALID criticism.

I like John Stones and I'll praise him when he deserves it but yesterday he was shocking because was too passive one on one. Kompany and Dunne would have stood there and blocked two soft goals from being conceded because they were both fearless. I'm not making Stones a scapegoat but he needs to show some mettle and bravery in games by getting stuck in to tackles and shot blocking.

With the ball, he is one of the best

Without the ball, there is a question mark

He clearly wasnt fit on sunday. I dont know why pep didnt take him off once the 5th went in. Pointless keeping him on and risking injury, regardless of peoples take, him staying fit will be one of the key things to getting anything out of this horrendous season.

Maybe, but it would have been kind of fucked up to throw Reis or Khusanov on at that point.

Pep actually mentioned him not having pain from plantar fasciitis specifically in the Leyton Orient post match embargoed press conference.
