President Trump

It's weird watching on as America allows itself to be gutted without any pushback.

All this talk about protecting yourselves from tyranny and then when the moment comes... nothing.

People are being dragged from their homes, marched out of their jobs, their identities and individuality stripped from them, they're being priced out of living, entire governmental departments are disappearing and money being syphoned off.

And they just ask "well, what can I do?"

Shit, people were doing more to stop it during the election campaign. Let someone with a steady hand have a go.

He will be quite popular for a while (in the states and with the hard of thinking in this country) many Americans believe they are the victims of free trade rather than the beneficiaries of it (sometimes China has been guilty of dumping but they were brought to book)

Considering that many American corporations have manufacturing bases in the markets they serve (Kellogs for example ) the profit on your box of cornflakes does not come back to the UK it goes straight back to the US

Once they actually see that not a lot will actually change prices will still rise (because in reality there is not a lot you can do about globally traded commodities)

It's going to be a long 4 years but I think the US actually needs this to happen, (it's happened before back before the great depression) and we need it to happen as an abject lesson to all the populists in this country they may realise that complex problems can not be solved very easily

On tariffs bringing jobs back to the US

job losses in metals-using sectors outweigh job gains in metal sectors ~75 to 1.

The people who voted for him are probably pretty pleased so far. Long term most of them will be disappointed I think, and the people that hate him anyway just don't matter.

Probably cheering the Gulf of America, has he declared this was the best superbowl ever because he was there.
Speaking of the GOA, did you see his little impromptu “meet the press” on his flight to the Super Bowl?

While he was batting back softballs, he had an aide holding a picture of the Continental U.S. with a big “Gulf of America” label over the Gulf. The person was holding it like it was a backdrop, then they propped it up on the credenza over his right shoulder so it was in frame.

He is such a vacuous fucking peacock, strutting around with his feathers out for the know nothings who like fancy feathers!

I saw that map, and like you thought it was a bit lame!

Haven't seen it but sounds like the kind of base level stupidity that will define his second term.

As I keep saying, Trump is as dumb as a rock. Renaming a geological feature is about as technical a policy as he can manage on his own. And having a flunky holding up a sign behind him wile he talks BS is about as sophisticated an operation as he can manage.

The danger is that wile this idiot causes havoc in the Whitehouse those nefarious types that lurk in the background will have the perfect cover to do as they please.

Tell me, oh wise one, what can I do?

The Dems have started writing legislation.

The Courts have started to block his Executive Orders.

What has he done that has been agreed is illegal, yet?

And, what does one do when he “owns” the democratically elected levers of power and is free to appoint imbeciles to positions of extraordinary power?

The REAL problem is that the “system” shouldn’t allow a convicted felon to run for President, but the Founding Fathers didn’t believe a gentleman (and who else would Americans elect as President but a gentleman?!) would ever be a convicted felon.

Nor should the system allow one branch of government to have the kind of nebulous power the Executive Branch has with both the Executive Order and the Power to Pardon, which requires no checks or balances, beyond Congress seeking an injunction to an Executive Order IF they believe it violates the Constitution.

The problem, of course, is that no-one has previously gone near the guardrails on these issues, while Trump’s evil backroom zealots have spent years trying to figure out how to obliterate guardrails that may or may not be there, as they’ve never been tested, and were always considered “convention” not law!

Trump is far too dumb to think this stuff up on his own, but the bigots, zealots and Bible-punchers lurking in the shadows, whom he is letting gut the country’s institutions and conventions, have been stroking themselves over this moment for their entire adult lives!

Stephen Miller, who shows you in his face and demeanor just how evil he is, is matched only by the affable and smiling demon seed that is JD Vance, the hypocritical opportunist who called Trump “Hitler” before he realized Trump was going to let the fundamentalists do whatever they wanted, as long as he could keep the money rolling into the Trump Crime Family.

So, while I don’t speak for “America,” I find it amusing, yet not very funny, that you seem to believe so many of us are somehow “too chicken” to do something about a crime that’s not been committed or a soft coup, from the inside, that hasn’t done anything one can say has been so outrageous as to impeach him…and that will DEFINITELY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN while Republicans control both houses and the Judiciary!

America is open for business, Baby, if your business is oligopoly and kleptocracy at the very top of the wealth scale…and there’s not a damned thing most of us can do about it!

You know what keeps us from total autocracy and dictatorship? Good people taking correct actions, but most of them have some power to effect change, or stop it, as the case may be.

My only surprise was that he didn’t use his Sharpie to show us where the Gulf of America was on his little map.

I see Google has already slurped down a bucket and will recognize it as the Gulf of America on searches that ask for it or a map of the area!!

only difference than before is that Trump has a strangle hold on social media propaganda - and especially for the young that's where the war is won, twitter and tik-tok etc will just pump out lies and misinformation in support of Trump and continue to blame minority groups no matter what.

its interesting - the Gulf of Mexico will outlast the Gulf of America and even Trump himself.
meanwhile as much as the fat lad bounces on stage spreading his arms Twitter will never be X though I doubt the platform itself will outlive Musk himself

I don't see what can be done or actually why anything should be done. The one benefit of democracy is that problematic decisions can always be reversed but unfortunately you have to wait 4 years for that chance.

I would only fear Trump if he starts to change the democratic system and that's a danger but I can't see it happening. Whatever happens is endurable and you have to just hope that maybe some good is done? Some of the attacks on governmental waste for example has to be applauded.

Personally I think it is refreshing because politics always needs refreshing and Trump just represents that change although obviously the direction is quite extreme.

Sometimes it is just necessary however maybe it'll make the Democrats think twice about putting billionaire celebrities on stage because their candidates message is so ineffective.. And because they think the electorate are just too stupid.

So, in essence, “break the fuck out of it, but don’t worry you can rebuild it again later when you have power. In the meantime, don’t use celebrities with money to get your message out.

And, getting rid of all that “waste, fraud and abuse”…isn’t it refreshing?”

Did I miss anything?

Do you know how long it takes to reverse the shutdown of a bureaucracy and rebuild it, versus taking away the money, the jobs and the building and turning it into something else…or just selling the real estate?!

I just find the current state of things to be problematic so yes breaking it may be the only option. The US governmental budget is $10tn and what do you personally see from that? You don't even have free healthcare, you get next to nothing and yet you are still burning through more dollars than the country makes via increased debt.

I can understand the frustration, politics does not work so they voted for a weird orange guy because he said the right things, the other alternative was to shutup and continue as is. Those things were lies and total horseshit but that is just indicative of how damning the political system is.

Like I said, it's the same in the UK. We have a government focused on repeating nonsense about a £22bn black hole however they miss every single day that the UK fiscal deficit is £120bn, not £22bn. Nobody has any sense to challenge this, they just forgo it and go about their day because they'd rather not talk about it because it's too hard.

It doesn't change the fact that the whole thing is a nonsensical mess that somebody must eventually break apart to fix, there's no other choice.

we are days away from underpants on head and pencils up the nose .....

My missus asked me why there's no Brass Eye equivalent on TV anymore. I told her that there's simply no need for parody these days.

The most powerful nation in the world has chosen to be lead by a retarded rapist and a South African neckbeard.

Chris Morris is redundant.
