Awful performance which always happens against the better teams, he can look good against weaker opposition but against better teams he's just nowhere near good enough as a 6.

A squad player that's played far too much, the manager decided to go into the season with Rodri, Gundogan, Bernardo and Kovacic
 
PSG was all the evidence needed as to why he shouldn't play tonight. Drives into trouble and otherwise passes sideways or backwards and rarely accurately.

Against weaker opposition he is able to do a job but he doesn't have anywhere near the composure or skill set to perform on this stage against better opposition. I guess we didn't have another option though.
 
Far too slow, poor pass again leads to us conceding, has to go in the Summer and please doesnt play next week
 
Let's be honest, there's a reason he's got three Champions' League medals, but has never actually played in a final. He's just not quite good enough for the very top level. His physical profile suggests a destroyer, but he doesn't quite have that top level anticipation and reading of the game. And while he's good at carrying the ball and has a decent shot on him, neither are good enough to make up for his shortfalls. Hence why wherever he's played, he's been a supporting player.

But he also represents this odd shift in our recruitment away from players that can pass well first and foremost, to players who can carry the ball. Him, Doku, Nunes, Phillips, (apparently looking at Eze last summer) all at their best running with the ball, but with pretty average passing. And we've had midfielders that are good bursting forward with the ball before, like Toure and KDB, but they also had the incredible passing range to go with it. I don't get this shift, but it's quite obvious that they were looking for these sorts of players for some reason.
 
Been saying all season he's not good enough. For a centre midfielder his passing is shite. Was happy to not see him in the starting XI, was gutted when he came on.

Yeah totally agreed.

If we don't sell Kova this summer, we have a serious problem in the team's front office.

He doesn't fit the team and is careless with the ball.

Might get away against lower opposition but there's a reason Real were willing to let him go, Chelsea were willing to let him go.

He's not a dependable player!
 
Can’t look past a backwards, back heel pass in the 92nd minute right when we’re under the cosh.

Stones showed how to play the role and Kovacic still doesn’t know how to.

Shame, think he’s mint but not good enough to be starting - and definitely not in the most vital cog of our side - for us.

There have been points where I thought he might be ok, but that's probably when everyone else is on it and making it easy for him.
 
Feel for him. He’s not a 6 and had a truly awful cameo.

Please can Gonzales stay fit and play there, play Kova as an 8 when required and plonk Gundogan in the Tunnel Club.

LOL felt for him the first time it happened.. but this is like the 20th time..

It's the same mistake again and again.. losing the ball in midfield and gift wrapping to the opposition.

Umm you're only watching highlights if you think that's rare.

It happened what 6 times in the Chelsea game alone recently.. but we won anyways.

It's happening again and again and again.
