North Stand Construction Discussion

By the time the actual roof is on, doubt you'd see most of the pitch from up there. There is another central viewing platform right at the edge of the new roof, but doubt that would be anything more than seeing kick-off for a fee.
I'm sure I saw somewhere in the planning portal that it won't be open on matchdays full stop. H&S issues probably.

Edit: This is from the Design & Access document, although I could be misreading that.

"An additional flexible hospitality VIP suite is located at this level which will be used by the Rooftop Walk experience on non-match-day. This suite has no dedicated seating associated with it in the bowl, however has access to a balcony on level 05."

Has anyone got an idea where this concrete beast is going?

Hi Jrb either side of the sky bar at the very back The perimeter wall of the terracing is still to be fixed ??

Cheers dave

The view from my season ticket standing place last night. When the observation deck is up there it's going to look immense! Do you think City will let us watch a game from up there? You'd get an amazing view of the tactical battles, much better than being on row L anyway that's for sure!

Phone at the match ffs.

Don't let the atmosphere police know, you'll be instantly categorised as a tourist.

Cheers for that. But I call bollocks. Not by you obviously, by the statement.

No way they don't offer that as a vip package on match days, even just up to kick-off. What, so people bought out time the vip suite, that has direct private access to the viewing platform on top of the roof, but they can't go up there at all on that day? Not buying it.

I'm sure spurs do a similar thing at theirs, ive seen people at their viewing platform ahrad of kick-off.

No offence taken, I think you're right now I've re-read it. The VIP suite they mention must be so it restricts access to the rest of the ground on non-match days as I can't see any easy access to the stadium otherwise. Perhaps I've missed how you access the rooftop walk on match days or would it be via the same entrance at ground level? Meaning if you also had tickets for the game you'd have to come down and out of the stadium before entering whichever stand you're in?

To manage numbers would you need to pre-book it?

Haven't looked in a while, but from memory the rooftop walk can Only be accessed from the VIP suite at the top level. Whether on match day or any other day, the package will by default include access to the vip room.

Hence I don't see it as realistic that someone would book up the vip suite, but be unable to get the walk on the day. Even if it is a case of, show up 2 hours before the match, do the walk, finish off at the central platform by the kick-off, and then back down to the vip suite to watch the rest, or something along those lines.

I am obviously just guessing here.

Sure. Sometimes they have chains too. Think the poster got what I meant.
Yes they still use chain slings but these are better for hooking to shackles and eye bolts. If you have to wrap a sling round an item to be lifted then Polyester round slings and web slings are better because they damage the steel unlike chain slings and are easier to handle. Also chain slings only have a factor of safety of 4 to 1 and fibre slings have a safety factor of 7 to 1

Should read does not damage

Could only go really early this morning so was surprised the cranes started that early

Genuinely wondering if the roof will only be supported (temporarily) by the props on the old roof. The preparation work there really does look to be quite substantial but then I just can’t envisage the old roof taking that huge amount of weight without additional support further up the new terracing.

It's propped underneath to the terracing is it not? So none of the load is taken by the old roof at all.

As far as I'm aware the old roof is supported temporarily from underneath using the props. These aren't actually doing anything at all at the moment as the old roof is still supported by the cable net which was transferred to the new towers.

Those prop supports look to be in the exact place where the yellow temporary structure is being added to the roof so are solely for supporting the new roof through the old roof. I could be wrong on that but it certainly looks to be the case.
