i can understand that, but say..we do win in Madrid - by a miracle - it will take monumental luck, and take it all out of the squad we have left..then what, slip down the league..and probably lose a 2 x legged tie v anyone decent in UCL knock out...i was kind of hoping we wouldn't get through..at least we would have a bit of rest.

I see it as the total opposite. The liklihood of going through now against madrid is incredibly slim and even if we do, we're not going any further. We are nowhere near good enough to compete in the later rounds this season. The more important thing is to ensure we are back in it next year. For the money, the happiness of players, the allure it brings when looking to sign new players and for the continued plan to be at or around the top every year.

Best team we can field for newcastle, try not to get smashed and then worry about what team we can stick out for the unlikely task of overturning the madrid deficit later.

I agree, the less games this group of players have the better. We are playing walking wounded half the time. We need rest. And especially with that monstrosity of a tournament in the summer.

The club WC is a nightmare but let's just look at it as a financial saviour.

The money earnt will go towards the rebuild.

With the ball, Stones moves in to CDM. Khusanov stays deep. Foden moves inside right and Marmoush moves more central, interchanging with Phil.
