Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

what struck me on the parts of the match i could see today (streaming fails) was how when we were countered there was no panic and we generally got back before they even had a chance to fashion an opening and Gordon just turned around and went back to his midfielders.

No more rotating Savinho, the guy is getting better and better and really that forward 4 should be the team against Madrid.

I’m not sure what team to play against Madrid - Stones and Gonzalez in front of Rico-Khusano-Dias-Gvardiol?

And then just have Foden behind the front 3?

I see no reason to throw Bernie and Kev in.

I have been out all day so did not get to see the game today. I must admit I wasn't confident of a result today, especially with the way Isak and Gordon have been playing recently, so to keep them out and score 4 ourselves is something else.

What an amazing result. So pleased for the lads.

Well done to the blue boys.

Watching the game I never mentioned Rico g’s name but then realised we had controlled the midfield and had no issue

So he gets my vote

For me today was probably the most enjoyable home game this season. The football was much better to watch and more direct. We were also much more solid defensively and kept Newcastle quiet.

The new players all looked great. All the starting 11 had good games. I can't fault any of the players today.

Sounds very simplistic and obvious but made such a difference having someone sit, hold position, win the ball, play it simple. Made Gundo look like the player we thought we were signing - as in he can float between 8/10 and not have to chase players back to our own goal.

Think Khusanov looks very good, confident young CB.

Weds will likely be too big of an ask but gives confidence for aiming for 3rd, win FA cup and this s**t storm of a season might not work out too bad.

Up the Blues

There was a bit at around 78 mins where he put in the tackle of the season to stop a counter.

He made all the difference today and looked every bit as good as the times I’d watched him for Porto.
Yep - on Livramento with a body check and quick winning back of the ball, then a short pass to a blue shirt. We haven't had that in our team since Sept and teams have just waltzed down the middle on us.

I thought Nico G was excellent, just what we've missed.

Marmoush will get all the plaudits but Gonzalez most important player on the pitch.

Allowed the rest of it to work.

All day long. He was vocal all game too, straight in and looking like a first teamer. What we have been missing for so long. Even Gundo looked more like old Gundo with the security provided by Nico. Fantastic home debut.
