Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Easy to get carried away by one performance, and we’ll almost certainly get brought back down to earth by Madrid on Wednesday, but that was by far the most encouraging display of the season.

Felt like the new signings were integral to that, and gave the team a renewed energy and purpose. Hope it wasn’t just a flash in the pan, as today gave a glimpse into the future of this side, and for once this season it was a genuine cause of optimism.
Even at 3-0 I wasn't too optimistic. The last time we were three ahead I turned to my neighbour and stated that we were in total control. Fifteen mins later? 3-3! But I thought the fourth goal was a winner.

Did I not say the other day it was time to look forwards and move on from the old guard, thankfully was right, best performance of the season by a mile and all 3 of the new guys were instrumental.

Only had half an eye on a dodgy stream but the most encouraging I thing I saw was the zippiness of the passes and the great first touches. There was a moment in the first half were Nico got the ball snappily into him under a bunch of pressure. If he miss controls the Newcastle player has a run on Ederson. The ball was a little behind him but he took it under control and the danger passed.

Another encouraging moment was when Khusanov got turned by Gordon. Khusanov did well to get back and between him and stones they cleared it quite easily.

It was a glimpse into the future. When you couple it with the old guard getting outplayed by Real Madrid, it’s been a significant week.

Not there until Sunday an the dips More please City CMONNNN

New signings were all mint today.

Khusanov looks like a cross between Stones and Dias, and faster and stronger than both.

Gonzales looked dead calm on the ball, never rushed, passed forward well, looks physical.

Marmoush was actually a bit erratic and the less consistent of the three but scored a bloody hattrick haha.

Top day.

Players who’ve had shockers this season played really well as well: Lewis and Gündoğan.

Only concerns are that both Haaland and Marmoush limped off when subbed off and Savinho limped off after the game.
Haha. Marnouch started awfully. Had about 5 awful touches and then suddenly did a U-turn

Yeah mate, throw Kev, Bernie, Kova back in against Madrid and prioritise Liverpool now. If we get a sniff against Madrid then we can have plenty of ammo on the bench.

I’ve had one of those days, I’d literally just turned to my son and mates 30 seconds earlier and said it’ll fall into place soon for Omar, lo and behold he bags and goes on from there. You could see his confidence lift, same with Khusanov once he’d got a few challenges and easy balls in place. Great day.

Really good performance today and the most enjoyable game for a while.
The whole team performed well and aside from one or two moments Newcastle were contained. Funny that all the pre match paper talk was Haaland v Isak but it was Marmoush who stole the headlines. All three of the new starters gave a strong account of themselves.
The subs were good today and there was no discernible drop in performance when they came on. Pleased that McAtee got on the score sheet again.

Really enjoyed that. Marmoush and Savinho were the picks up top. Stones was immense. Khusanov looks up for it. And I thought Nico gave everyone else a bit of confidence because he was fucking tremendous on and off the ball.

Thank you, you beautiful blue bastards!
