Coffee

For any Stockport coffee loving blues, Kobean in Heaton moor is a brilliant roastery.

Bought some of their Ethiopian single origin recently, makes a very good espresso.

I'm currently using a nespresso pod machine, quick, clean, not a bad taste, but so expensive. Spent about £1200 on pods last year between the two of us.

I'd like to halve that cost but what are my options? Aeropress? sub £100 espresso machine? anything else? Find Cafetiere coffee quite bitter so thats not an option.

I'm not spending £500 on a fancy machine and I don't want to spend more time cleaning it than actually drinking coffee, so what are my options?
I just use a mocha pot works a treat

Is instant coffee actually coffee? Isn't it the same as instant mashed potatoes?

Great thread. I fancy moving away from instant coffee myself.

I dont know anything about any of these machines or bean-to-cups or whatever.

My friend bought a Tassimo but it seemed like the capsules were expensive and just another form of marginly better instant.

Could someone recommend a home device which makes a decent cup of proper coffee which won't cost me a fortune and won't leave me shelling out fortunes in add ons - obvs if a Tassimo is indeed my best option then please say.

Love a good cup of coffee.

Percolator, filter or moca pot which can use pre ground.

I'd only get a machine if you are genuinely arsed because they are an expensive faff.

Don"t agree our Delonghi primadonna has been pumping out great expresso for 5 years now without a problem. Doubled in price unfortunately tho'.
Well,
I suppose you can stick with the pressurised baskets so you won't need a 300£ grinder but you are not getting the best out of the machine or the bean at all.
The grinder is everything.
Especially so if you drink black coffees (americano).
Unless you've a good grinder and an unpressurized basket, the moca pot will be just as good.

I stopped buying the pods from Nespresso Years ago, I get them in the supermarket and stock up when on offer, some really nice coffees out there by Costa, Starbucks and Cafe Nero, especially the Cafe Nero Napoletano (strength 9) works out 20 odd pence a cup.

Do you mean grind the coffee separately and bypass the automatic bit? Don't understand 'not getting the best out if the machine' if you use the ready ground coffee option it still packs it into the basket and pressurizes it before pumping the hot water through.

Google "pressurised unpressurized single wall double wall basket".

For best (coffee shop) results, the unpressurized basket is best.

That said, your pressurised basket is fine and allows for variations in beans, grinds, etc

For milk drinks, not an issue. I'd struggle with that though as i drink black Americanos and those are nowhere near as forgiving.

Ymmv. Obv.
