The Mrs was out last night so watched the treble doc again. One thing is certain, win or lose we will give it everything we have with the characters at the club. The task might have been different had Nico played last week but it is what it is. We have been knocked out with better sides so let's not lose the faith just because we aren't what we were.

I wonder whether Pep goes with his experienced and ‘trusted’ players like he often does for big games. That would mean increasing the age and Kev coming in even though his form is really poor. I hope we keep the same front 4 as the newcastle game.
I think he will bring some of them back. For the first time this season we actually controlled a game of football without conceded a `big chance’. Pep knows if we get into a fire fight with Madrid they will turn us over especially at home. Try and control the game win 1-0/2-1 etc and take it to ET.

Gone for a breakfast there waiting for @Dodge to appear
After his Brentford exploits

Gundogan gives his best all the time when he plays alongside a CDM. but I think Pep will play Bernardo again in that position.
Another issue is who will play at the Right-back position. I think Dias and Ake will be the CB pair and Stones will be the right-back. This game is too big for Khusanov.
After our crashing win against Newcastle we all have hope for this game. We have the potential to win the game. They don't have a good form.

3-1 City

I'm worried that if we go in too tamely, they'll take it that we're scared of them and that may help them next time we meet (presumably in UCL next year... :-( ).

We know that they are wary of us - let's keep it that way. Momentum - if a week's worth counts - has been with us more than them, since Tuesday

I don't think its too big for him, but its a hard one to call who will play at the back. Right back is the weak link at the moment and we don't have anyone who can play there who does not have flaws or are still young and learning. I hope Pep does not play Kev as I think the front 3 that played against the Toon has to play in the system they played then, if you bring in Kev, Marmoush will have to play wider which is not where he was so effective at the weekend. I can see Bernie for Gundo as Pep rarely keeps the same mid and will have one eye on the scousers for freshness. All I want is for us to put up a good show and game as if we do, its more than likely we will win. Come on City!

Ederson
Khusanov Dias Ake Gvardiol
Stones Nico
Foden Marmoush Savinho
Haaland

Don’t know if he will play 5 defenders but I think it could work in shutting down their front three again, their goals last week were just sloppy mistakes easily could have been avoided. Early goal and we’re right back in it, we’re on form after Newcastle and I just get this funny feeling that we can do this. Come on City!!

I've had to check we are actually playing Wednesday night. I've just watched a preview of the game on sky sports and they repeatedly said we were playing tonight!

Bernardo Silva is finished at this level and anyone who says different is living in the land of the cuckoos !!

Going forward I'd like to see us go 3-3-4. Like this.

............. Ederson ...............
.......Khusonov Dias Stones.......
.............Gonzalez...............
.......Nunes .........Gvadriol.....
Savinho Marmoush Haaland Doku

  • No fullbacks. Instead the 3 CDs shuffle across and a midfielder drops to protect the far post.
  • A holding midfielder supported by a CD if possible.
  • Wingers staying wide to receive the ball but driving towards goal as proper forwards as much as possible
  • No target man. 2 Strikers should have completely free roles.
  • 2 attacking midfielders to break into the box at every opportunity. (Nunes and Gvardiol preferred but we have other options too). They'd have to help in defensive duties too but not turn into fullbacks very often.
I just think that we need fluidity and pace and the element of surprise. We have been far to predictable for too long.

I know this won't happen but that's what football forums are for. That and complaining about Trump.

They had good chances before and after they scored their 1st. We did a poor job defensively conceding 20 shots, the most under Pep at the Etihad.

Let's hope Nico makes a difference and we are solid. For we were anything but solid at the Etihad.
