Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Sometimes you just have to accept the better team won, move on and try to improve.

Whilst we concentrate our attention on Pep and the players because we have visibility, I think there is an equal amount of work to be done in relation to the support team that share the accolades when we win.

The services of whoever "scouted" Phillips and Nunes should be dispensed with immediately.

I am not sure about our medical team. They get a pass because of the exceptionally attritional nature of our season but it needs to be looked at to see if it can be improved.

If we have specialist set-piece and defensive coaches, I'm not seeing any evidence of it. I don't think it's too judgemental to say that both areas need looking at.

All done with huge debts and unlimited spending. The PL is happy to prevent its clubs from competing with the elite clubs in Spain. Real Madrid will always get a free pass and the grovelling English media love blowing smoke up their arse especially Rio and McManaman.
That useless scouse tosser was slagging our new players off all night. “Nico was too slow”, “Khusanov couldn’t handle Vinicious Jr”, “Marmoush was anonymous”, while all true to some extent, it’s early days for these players. They were thrown in the deep end a bit last night, but that dick has already made his mind up. Real are full of experience and we aren’t.

Without even trying too hard I can instantly recall 20 occasions (4 against the rags) when City have visibly run riot and then taken their foot off the gas with the opposition literally on their knees.
Subsequently 6-1 has finished 6-3 when 7-1, 8-1, or even 9-1 was on the cards.

Make no mistake, that's what Real Madrid did to us last night

Bernardo has been a major disappointment for the last two seasons now, fuck all is coming from him, has to go in the summer. Gundo is gone as well, I thought it was a masterstroke when he came back but he simply can't hack this league anymore, too old and too slow. What Pep was thinking playing them both last night heaven only knows
Gundo would be an asset coming off the bench but not for 90 minutes

The irony of McManaman, who never made a tackle and was a lazy player, slagging off Nico. What a twat he is.

That 3rd goal of Madrid, 3 or 4 players all pointing to where they should be, but none have the legs to get out to Mbappe. Embarrassingly bad.

Don’t think it was down to legs at all - it was effort & communication. Aké & Foden slow to react - no idea what Aké was doing ambling over and Foden was poor

I wouldn't class that as domination. You obviously disagree. So be it. I'm not going to argue all day about it. You won't change my mind, and I won't change yours.

Yeah that's fine it's opinions!

Only Madrid have dominated the champs league if I go by your standards and that's fine..

They're better than us and so not a big shock, we need to time to gel and get our step back. Never like losing but no shame in going out to them.

One question though, if you're giving that foul on McAtee then why isn't var saying "excuse me ref, that's in the area" ??? Do they hope we'll just all suffer a mass hallucination and not see it? Or had they clocked off by then for tapas and sangria?

The way the team was set up and the personnel involved said that Pep wanted out of this competition. With the World Cup thingy coming in the summer and the squad creaking I guess he thought let’s get this one out of the way. I can understand his thinking but after a really good performance against Newcastle I expected us to at least have a go. Anyway it’s done and losing 6-3 over two legs to arguably the best team in the world isn’t the end of days.

All I asked for pre match was a bit of fight and have some balls in an attacking sense. We had neither. Going out was expected, for the tie to be pretty much done leg 1 or certainly 5 minutes into leg 2 is pathetic and I don't care who we was playing. They was in this qualifying too.

We have been slapped many times this season, Pep seemingly cannot find a way to make us stronger/tighter or harder to get at. The best manager in the world by the way. I wouldn't mind if we had zero attacking threat last night if it was off the back of keeping it tight. Winning became normal and a habit, us getting slapped about by any team that is better than us is becoming one now which is very worrying. We are in Feb 25, we haven't beaten a top side since April 2023. Nearly 2 years.

The class difference was obvious in both games and 3-6 flatters us, that's the truth. The question is how can we bridge that gap? Pep is not alone in current managers that despite player capability continues to play their way and only their way. How we can keep playing a high line when our defenders (bar Khusanov) all lack pace defies logic. How we do not get the ball into the area as quick as possible when we have, apparently, a 6ft4in goal machine waiting is bizarre. We do not have prime David Silva, Yaya, KDB, Rodri, Aguero and Walker available, let's not play as if we do and adjust our game plan to what we have and improve from that.

Was a bad performance, but Pep should look at how teams are beating us, its not generally through having more of the ball, its a more direct quick attack, Madrid had nearly as much of the ball but were more willing to take risks in losing it by using long direct switches and balls into channels. Its basically what the scousers have been doing for years and teams like Bournemouth and Villa do as well. I am not saying copy them but take elements of that play (a bit like we did against the Toon) and integrate it into Pep style. We are so slow getting attacks going that teams have an age to get into position and set up, we have only been so successful as we have been better than the opponents but that gap is closing or has closed due to the age of the team. We need real mobility in the middle, Nico and Rodders should be a great platform, but we need a dynamic midfielder in the summer.

Some of the comments on here are batshit crazy, it's like folk haven't watched us play this season, did we really expect to beat Madrid over two legs with the season we have had?
That pre match poll told its own tale. When I saw it over 50% of participants voted that city would beat them. Some people must not bother watching us. We didn’t have a hope in hell last night and 5/6 with the bookies for Real Madrid to win was nothing short of free money.
