Injuries 2024/25 | Ake & Bobb return to training

I don’t think Akes fit otherwise he’d have started v Madrid, it’s the same as the others he’ll break down soon.

true, but ake and stones being injury prone is not a new thing. i think akanji and dias were rushed back and wouldn’t have so many issues under normal circumstances. abysmal summer transfer window in so many ways.

Dias, regression? He may make the odd mistake but he is still a top class CB and leader.

I was never too bothered about the Madrid games we were never winning it this year so one game a week to finish top 4/5 is all we need this season,and refresh for next season, the FA cup would just be a nice bonus if we win it.

Who is paying £30m for a 30 year old defender, with 1 year left in his contract, on £250k a week and can't stay fit for more than a couple of weeks?
Absolutely nobody.
Doubt we will be able to give him away for free without paying him a huge chunk of cash to go to someone who will give him a pay as you play contract.

Absolutely nobody is paying a transfer fee for a player who finds it hard to complete even one game these days. He has been a legend for us but there is no way that he's getting a new contract now.

Quite simply we are not going to get rid of four centre backs in one window. Without having access to the medical reports and knowing how likely any problems are to be recurrent we don't know which is best. Bobb and Rodri have been absent for longer than any of them. Should they go first?

Many of those are injuries brought on through rushing unfit players back and playing them relentlessly until they break again, creating a seemingly unbreakable cycle. We did that because of Peps decision to go into the season with 6 defenders. Anybody who watches football and can add could have told you in the summer that wasn't nearly enough. A lot of those injuries don't happen had we entered the season with a minimum normal number of defenders.

Exactly !!! Made me laugh seeing news this week of 7 players we will show the door.

Most of these will be sent on loans with us picking up huge chunks of their wages until contracts expire.

Rodri and Bobb both sustained serious injuries so obviously they would be out for a long period. Ake, Akanji, Stones and now Dias can't stay fit from.one game to the next. We have already signed two young center halves if we add one world class older one to organise them and the defence that will be our future. Stones is sadly finished and maybe Ake too. The other two if their fitness isn't too bad can be retained.
