Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

As expected to be honest.
Defensively appalling again.
Liverpool won’t score two easier goals all season.
First goal man stood on the penalty spot totally unmarked.
Second goal exactly the same.
Thought we looked more solid in the midfield.
We didn’t press their keeper or defenders high up the pitch which made us more compact in the midfield.
Though still far from perfect, the ball over the top caused us problems, something we couldn’t do today cos Marmoush was far too deep.
In terms of actual goal threat today we were piss poor.
Doku worked hard in attack today though his final ball was poor, as were his options.
Hardly anyone showing for him, hardly any movement.
Similar from Savinho, though he put a few good balls in but there wasn’t anyone gambling or making runs in the box.
Haaland was a huge miss today.
I’ll take that today considering how our season is going but if we get beat off Spursy again I’ll be fuming.
Which let’s be honest is more than likely.

I'm not even depressed because I'd expected this result even before I saw the team. Once I'd seen the team I actually thought we'd get beaten by more than two goals.
I've just watched Slot's interview and he was much more complimentary about our performance than we as fans have been, myself included. He's right, in parts we are still very good but father time has caught up with our key players and injuries and burn out has weakened us further.
Pep said given our new young players the future is bright and I agree. I'm not sure who will still be here next season but for me we need a right back, left back and a top leader at center half. People rate Gvardiol but defensively I never have. Rodri coming back will help and we need a KDB replacement which is obviously tough shoes to fill.
While our wingers are exciting they just don't score enough, well at least not yet. Fodens form is a worry he's miles off last season for whatever reason.
It's all about getting the right players in the summer now. We can't afford anymore Nunez or Phillips types, they have to be world class if we are to regain our place at the top once more.
Now all that matters is top four and if we somehow win the fa cup as well it would turn a transitional poor season by our own high standards into a half decent one given everything that has happened.

Am I going mad?

I thought the better team lost today and if Haaland's on the pitch we get at least a point

Two individual mistakes and a ridiculously lucky deflection ends up in our goal. Absolutely nothing drops for us for the whole match

I'm getting pelters on a whatsapp group for suggesting this (admittedly hardly any blues on there)... but I stand by it
I agree. One of our better performances this year.

Most of the valves on here just look at the scoreline. I saw a lot of good things today.

To see the greatest player I've ever seen in a sky blue shirt perform like that was absolutely fucking heart breaking :( And why did Pep keep him on for so long ? So fucking sad to see. Foden again totally anonymous. Two of our all time greats who have been so unbelievable in the last 5 or 6 years to perform like that is gut wrenching. So with 15 minutes to go and 2-0 down against the runaway leaders..Pep brings on a centre half(maybe was needed) and two fucking pedestrian midfielders. Baffling! We didn't actually play that badly(especially compared to Wednesday) but when 2 or 3 players are so off it, it's going to bite you on the arse.
Foden’s never been an all time city great, & unlikely will be he’s been horrendous all season, kdb will always have that honour although he’s time is done, along side David silva the ultimate quality wise

A season ago if liverpool performed as they did today we would have smashed them.
A year from now if they come and perform like that we will return to smashing them.

They are having a fortunate season where there is no one to compete with them

This bent out of shape **** of a whiner crying about Everton celebrating while he acts like they have won the world cup when they score, it's about time other professionals started calling these fuckers out.

some players are still trying
thats the only positive

majority of players are washed
we need new blood for real

hope we see claudio for fa cup
The issue I have is that Echevari is just another prospect.....like sav, doku, MCatee even Marmoush as he has taken a big step later in his career. We need someone a bit more established who can come in and nske a difference....
Echevari looks exciting but is he a game changer.....sav isn't, doku isn't MCatee isn't and Marmoush looked out of his depth today and vs Madrid
Yes it will be good to see him but I'm not pinning any hopes on him or any of the above for next season either...Same csn ve said about Oscar Bobb.....to some he is like the second coming of Sergio/ David Silva.....but he in reality is just a prosoect

We’ll be fine. If that’s the best team in the country, we didn’t disgrace ourselves.

Stick Akanji, Dias, Stones, Rodri and Haaland in that side today… who knows.

The future is Blue.

KDB can’t be a part of that future though I’m afraid. Absolute legend but his race is run.
Best team in the country - yes.

But they didn't break a sweat. Only TAA had a tough game. They could have put Kenny Dalglish in goal and the result would still be the same.

Most posters are judging the game purely on the result.

Which they shouldn’t be.

How would you have set them up?
It's not necessarily a change in formation im looking for, it's the gameplan and the mentality.

With what weve got, when we get the ball, we should be looking for the first and second pass to be forward balls, look to get the ball to the danger men wherever they are as quickly as possible to give them space to attack and to give them that imbalance in the oppositions formation to exploit before they can recover. We know what that looks like as its pretty much how we concede every single goal.

We are too slow to build up an attack, we let the opponents stick 10 behind the ball and we often don't have the tools to break through that, especially without Haaland. Look at Newcastle, all the goals came from us attacking quickly and directly, that's also how Liverpool concede the majority of their goals and how we need to be prepared to play.

It doesn't mean we have to turn it into a basketball match, we can slow things down and pass the ball for periods but we need that different approach and change of tempo in our game, we've got the players for it, I'd even argue we're actually better suited to play that way now but peps still trying to recreate last seasons style with tools that aren't meant for that.

You’re not going mad. We were fine. A shadow of our former selves, which is an incredibly high bar, but we were fine.

No Akanji, Dias, Stones, Rodri or Haaland. Young lads looking good (apart from Rico).

We’ll be back.

Bless the scousers , they will walk the league , knowing damn well they haven’t beaten a prime City , everyone knows it , and we know it more than anybody , they will win it with this City team being in “crisis”.
Happy fucking days , it’s just one level up from their Covid title - and we all know what happened the season after.
Up the fucking blues !

Pep isn't going anywhere. We are starting next season with him. It's more of a let's give him time to figure this shit out more than anything. He is ofcourse at fault but it is what it is.
“It is what it is” has to be one of the most banal, fatalistic sayings ever.

“We don’t give a fuck coz we’re all pissed up” has more gravitas.
