Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Interesting mate. I commented similarly (in a round about way) in my first post match post.

For me, if Pep wants to stick to the tried and tested style we need to replace Kev, Gundog, Walker, Stones and Kovacic with the “new” version of each. Replicate them.

Otherwise, we do need to change the style and like you say, change to a side who wins games not just through control but through killer transitions, or balls over the top, or through set pieces.
Agree - but not the set pieces bit. The whole club is crap at set pieces, I can't see that ever changing. Lewis let the ball go out for a throw today and naturally we lost possession from the resultant throw, happens all the time.

Fuck em,
but I'm jealous for their clear organization in defence,
for the philosophy to defend as a full team,
for the aggressive way to play,
for the physicality,
for the set pieces,
for the pace going forward (and back) and smelling blood.

All that has been outcoached of our lads or they never had it since being scouted.

red scousers have what it takes to win big matches and titles, tbh.
Maybe they have not enough upfront, but if we aren't even able to shut down their only threat, well...

We were so helpless, hard watch.
They have won one title in 30 odd years plus this one
Not that good for such a big club

Liverpool are set to win the most boring Premiere League campaign since it started.

Will have it won by mid-March

Relegation battle will be completed in the same timescale.

Makes the rest of the matches totally meaningless, apart from the fight for CL and other European tournaments... YAWWWWWWWWWWWWWN.
It isn't the Dippers fault that everyone else has been shit this season. If another team had really pushed them then we may have seen their true worth as a team. As it happens, no one's been good enough to stay close to them.

Love to see how some of the comments from certain people on this forum would be like back when we were actual proper dog shit and got relegated twice

Wind your fucking necks in, its one shit mediocre by our standards season out of nothing but success since since 2012..

Grin and bear it you fannies

When we allowed Van Dyke to take that corner down on his chest on the penalty spot I felt truly sad at the drop off we are seeing.

Not great. Not as bad as previous games though. But didn't look like we'd ever score.
Defence is still shit, but guess injuries haven't helped. Still, it'd be nice if we started trying to put a tackle in during one of those 40 yard runs several players make against us every game.
So slow moving the ball.
Hurry up next season.
Back off every time and allow opponents to cover about 60/70 yards unchallenged. Usually results in a goal, a shot or a near miss with our mid completely cut out and defenders who are ridiculously high frantically scrambling on the back foot or playing the offside trap too late.

Seen it so many times.

Their corner - they only learned that routine at training YESTERDAY after their set piece analyst worked out where we would position ourselves to defend. They blocked us in and this left Salah free of his marker. Ffs.

I remember once Mahrez scored a similar goal from the same corner ( South stand CB stand side delivery) against iirc Utd. Why the hell can't we do it now?

Thought it was a decent enough performance overall, midfield is still - hopefully - a work in progress. Khusanov looks good value, Doku was excellent and Savinho second half. Why no near post runs from our midfielders, to give the wide players another option.
I have said this for a while. If Kevin doesn't make those runs, no one does. Today it became a different game in the second half because Liverpool could sit back in numbers with a 2 goal lead. It was like us playing against Arsenal when we got the equaliser in the 98th minute earlier in the season. They really didn't have many attacks in the second half.
When we buy in the summer, we need someone in midfield who us dynamic, like Kev used to be. We can't keep buying midgets. We need some strength in there. Just my opinion.

Sadly Haaland has not done much so far vs Liverpool
Not counting Community Shield he's played them 5 times.
He's played them at Anfield in 3 league games times without scoring.
But played them twice at the Etiahd - once only in the league and once in the League Cup. He scored in both of them. Agueroesque...

I thought our 2 wide forwards were the best players on the pitch but we had no centre forward.

Add Haaland and we would have caused Liverpool a lot of problems

In training they do rondo. I’m convinced that’s it. The coaching staff would be out of the door immediately if it were down to me.

It’s crazy though isn’t it. He’s been here 18 months and I don’t see that he’s developing at all. He’s got strength, pace and a trick to beat his man, yet he produces the square root of fuck all in 99% of the games he’s played in. He’s not the only one, mind you, but look at savinho. He been here months and didn’t settle, but of late he’s been much more productive and has contributed. I’m happy with that as it shows he is adapting to the league.
I think the problem on both sides is not due to Doku or Savinho alone, there is simply no one that links up with them that they can pass to. The only options are Rico/Gvardiol or to pass it to a central midfielder like KDB or Kovacic
