The Midfield

Agree he's done in. However I'd be tempted to keep him around for 1 more year. Use him off the bench. He's the type of character to keep around.
I'd rather Kev leave then be relegated to that tbh. This season is already looking like one of the worst for Kev as a City player, never mind being used even less next year. He's on huge wages, takes up a squad spot and every week Pep would get the same questions of why is a premier league and city icon on the bench.

That's before we even get to the mental gymnastics that Pep might go through to play him when he's clearly not what he once was.

I hope we find out either way before the end of the season. Going into the summer and then him leaving would be awful, we never got a proper goodbye for Sergio or Silva, lets hope we do for Kev

Looks pretty 442ish to me ;-)
Alrite fuk it I will hold my hands up. I watched it itermidedly soon as no1 went in:) Seeing benardo and gundo in line up with no RB/ Kev or Erling immediately started to get more pissed and lost focus.

>>>Point being<< I (think) was making - made ZER0 difference whatever fukin shit formation it was with or without the ball . . . due to the line up:(

Haha! The lineup definitely didn't help mate.

But the front 6 looked so much better against Newcastle, we pressed high and had loads of energy.

The only difference in lineup was Haaland for Bernado.

The main difference for me was the jobs the players were being asked to do.

Asking Gundogan to play box to box centre mid is fucking ridiculous.

Asking Bernardo and Foden to play wide in a flat midfield 4 is ridiculous.

Asking Savinho and Marmoush to play up top with their back to goal was fucking ridiculous.

It we played the exact same shape as we did against Newcastle, but swapped Haaland out for Bernado, we'd have been miles better off.

It was 442 (4411) and it worked well against Chelsea and Newcastle with Haaland alongside Marmoush. But it didn't work without Haaland and his brilliant off-the-ball runs. Ancelotti said as much after the game.
You're right that it was 442 against Madrid. The midfield 4 was flat.

But you're not quite right about Newcastle. We played 4231 in that game, with the front 4 pressing higher up.

Foden played as a number 10. Marmoush played on the left.

Against Madrid, Marmoush played up front with Savinho. Big difference.

Against Newcastle:

......Nico....Gundogan
Savinho..Foden..Marmoush
...........Haaland

Against Madrid:

Foden..Nico..Gundo..Bernado
......Savinho...Marmoush

all day mate. other issue is geordies were pretty shit

Quite liked the look of the wide players against Liverpool. Gonzalez might prosper alongside someone more dynamic, but ultimately might be a squad player when Rodri returns and if there's another signing to replace kdb/Silva and/or Foden gets better.

Was always going to be tough with KDB and Foden. They surely can’t play together again. Both wouldn’t be playing if we had any alternatives.

That ship sailed a couple of seasons ago. I thought Foden might of taken David Silva role and played with KDB as two number 8s.

I am not really sure what Foden best role is, certainly not centre forward

We are not far away , I am hoping when Rodri returns alongside Nico, Foden can thrive in the KDB role next season

I suspect we will be looking for another dynamic creative midfielder in the summer window

Echeverri on the way now. Hope he’s good enough so he won’t end up in Girona for a bit - could give us a bit more of a spark that is well needed at the moment

At the moment Foden’s best role is sat on the bench.

Can he go to Gironde now transfer window is shut?

I agree. Take that side yesterday, swap Lewis out for a new signing who can step into midfield, Gonzalez for Rodri, and De Bruyne for a new creative midfielder, and we’ve the makings of another top team.
Assuming we can get the defenders properly fit!
