Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

It's an exageration, but I thought we played OK, with creating much, I thought liverpool were very good, clever corner for the first goal (not well defended), got the lead and defended it very well. They were more up for it than us I thought, but it was league clincher for them after arsenal losing yesterday.

We do need to look at that team and how young it was, bar a couple, the future is bright, the recent history is also pretty bright.

Nobody should be angry with the team today, yet I've seen "shit show" mentioned, ridiculous.
Just beaten by a better side for the second time this week.

I thought Liverpool played very well, Slot has got them organised and they can play a number of ways and adapt in game.

That last 20 minutes was humiliating in another manner today, they just let us have the ball and knew we’d go side to side and ultimately give up a couple of chances playing ourselves into trouble which we did.

We are looking a very stubborn side now, set in our ways and introducing new players to do the same thing. I may be wrong but I’ve not seen anything to suggest we are trying new things at any point this season. The wide players are perhaps more direct and taking risks but if we are slow and turgid getting into the box as we are, they are just running into another wall of opposition players. That high line is looking more and more ridiculous by the game and I’m sure opponents can’t believe we are persisting with it.
Yes Agee. The wide players are doing their job but now we have nobody on the end of their hard work. Frustrating.

I think it's more to do with the PL trying to slow us down.

Looks like the money is being spent on Lawyers, rightly so as you need the best to defend against corrupted crooks,
and less on recruitment and coaching.

A lot of people have left the Club over the last couple of years but have they been replaced with quality?

Probably kept players longer than we would have liked as well.

No way should KDB, Stones or Gundo be starting big games, they are fooked after half an hour, that's if you get the long out of Stones.

Didn't think they were owt special today, but they didn't have to be.

Robertson and Arnold were beaten time and time again but we had no one attacking with the wide men.
Putting John Stones injuries to one side, he shouldn't be fooked after half an hour as he's only 30.

The days of simply being a winger are over.
Nah, the game evolves

Maybe the days of 5 midfielders all doing the same are over.

We were toothless in attack and a non existent central midfield.

KDB and Foden were woeful today.

Doku and Savinho in spells had the beating of the full backs but nothing to pass too.

Did Kev actually play that 65/70 mins or just pretend to be on the pitch?

And as for Phil, nothing more to say.

Football is cyclic, Mouriniho was once considered the best, right here rich now he not the best manager in the world Ancelotti regularly turns him over

Pep is the best by a country mile, He's the Manager of Manchester City who are not a so-called elite club with power that orders the Premier League to change the rules to stop clubs from progressing, Pep at Manchester City has to fight the system first, then the match officials, before we are facing a football team on the pitch.

This season his standards have slipped, Maybe by himself ? But I feel the club made the mistake of not looking to the future last summer, Yes nobody can predict the amount of injuries or the season we have had, But things were questionable when Alvarez was sold and we did not replace him, Also the injury to Rodri at the Euros, again the signs were there that he could blow up and out for a long time.

Yes, it's easy to point it out now and question why ? But I feel Manchester City and Pep should be using the youth academy this season, The EDS setup has got some good young talent and what harm would it make if 3 or 4 are given the chance in these times of need, Playing players that are burnt out or can no longer change a game is not the answer, Hungry young players willing to run and run with burning ambition and passion the crowd would love it.

I don't get it, Pep saying OK to come up short because of past seasons and title wins, Why show your hand to other clubs or let his own players coast without any comebacks,

Putting John Stones injuries to one side, he shouldn't be fooked after half an hour as he's only 30.
Everyone's different though aren't they.

We'd be lucky to get a good 30 minute spell out of him.

Funny how he played all those games for England then hardly kicks a ball for us!

We huffed and puffed but never created a serious chance. Liverpool were excellent defending their lead but if the situation had been reversed, and we'd gone in 2-0 up at halftime, you know we wouldn't have had the same organisation and discipline.

KDB is absolutely finished. I can understand he's lost some pace and aggression but he can barely make a simple pass these days. Foden worries me; has he peaked? He's just not doing the things he did last season.

Liverpool were fast and direct when they moved the ball forward whereas we were slow and ponderous. But Doku & Savinho absolutely terrorised TAA and Robertson although none of our players make that near-post run when they needed to. Roll on next season

Scoring early allowed them to just sit back, soak up any pressure and they knew we couldn't go too gung ho due to their pace on the break.

Kev is baffling. With his vision and skill how has his passing deserted him? I guess that must wane as well with age. I remember watching Silva in his final season and saying the magician has lost his magic.
Foden is a bigger mystery given his age. There should be more zip and energy. He has won everything at the age of 25, has his hunger gone?
Not getting top quality replacements in gradually for the likes of Kev, Gundo etcetera and easing them in means we now face a big and expensive rebuild. Sad to see such players leave but time catches up with them all eventually.

Dippers in SS2 going ape shit trying to get an elderly City fan thrown out because he called them victims

Fuck me they are beating us and more than likely have won the league and they spend an eternity harassing police that an old bloke called them victims

Fucking despicable club with despicable fans
Murderers would have been more accurate , he missed a trick there

Not as pessimistic as some. Thought we showed glimpses or rather a few players did.

It’s a shame we’ve not been able to build on the Newcastle game that did have some really encouraging signs.

Khuzanov is a real find in my opinion. Rico was half decent today, didn’t look a total liability.

Nico looks promising, his positioning is very very good. He’s being hung out to dry a little with no no’8’s anywhere near to hep him.

Pep seems stuck in a rut, no idea why he won’t try something different. Today, De Bruyne who’s sadly no longer even a consideration to start a game sadly. Was truly awful, it would have been interesting to see Nunes played in midfield or Grealish central, just something different, just another body and one that can move with energy and purpose.

There’s shoots there for next season. Last weeks front 4 was exciting. Nico is certainly promising.

I agree today that Doku didn’t have much to aim at, but 18 months has passed now and he’s never linked up consistently with anyone playing centrally. Maybe it’s the system we’re playing in. I just don’t think he’s good enough for a side at the top table.

If he’s getting into positions where he’s able to deliver a ball into the box and nobody is there he should be fucking raging at the rest of the team and he doesn’t.
It’s puzzling isn’t it. Pure guess but I think that Savinho and Doku at Liverpool would have similar numbers as maybe Diaz and Gakpo. I think our whole system is flawed and needs a complete reset. No one seems to believe in it
