Both would have been absolutely slated for not trying to convince Trump of a better route to peace. Now we all have to move on to whatever the next option is with this meeting in a couple of days between our allies.

Trying to convince him did not have to include sucking up to him, patting his leg, acting like best mates, and offering him state visits !!

It was all a setup, be very nice to both leaders, then shit on Zelensy in public, leaving them shat upon in reality, total circus from trump, even I didn't think trump would stoop that low.

O it was cringe alright and sad to see the leader of our country have to act like a fan girl to try and convince Trump not to be a traitorous ****. Was all for nothing in the end, now let's see if Starmer actually has a backbone and stands up for what is right, we will find out in the next 48 hours I think.
 
Starmer and Macron did what they had to do this week. None of this is their fault.

If people think that Europe will let Ukraine down now, then they are falling for the old Brexit crap all over again. Both leaders, plus Scholz and Tusk and others have made clear statements that they will back Ukraine and it’s down to the real business on Sunday now.

Maybe, but as a few have said, at least we know where we stand now. Better to find out sooner than rely on Trump only for him to change his mind.

It feels like the battle lines are being drawn now - look at the not inconsiderable list of European leaders publicly backing Zelensky since the debacle.

The EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said it has become clear that “the free world needs a new leader” after the clash between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.

“Ukraine is Europe! We stand by Ukraine,” Kallas said in a social media statement.

We will step up our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the [aggressor]. Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.
