Plymouth Argyle (H) | FA Cup | Post Match Thread

The game played out exactly as I anticipated it would in the best case scenario after seeing the lineup. Boring sleep inducing football and ended up relying on set pieces to get through. A wins a win but pep has to see he can't put out a side without a man that can actually take somebody on going forward. Going with grealish and bernardo on the wings was asking for a tough night.

Jobs done, great for O'Reilly bagginf a brace and we got to see the ICO trinity of nico, nico and Rico on the pitch together on to the next one, Preston please but I'd take fulham.
We won the champions league with Jack on the left and Bernie on the right. We could not break them down but let's give some credit to them.

The difference in the pace between the team who started the game against Spurs and the team that started today is ridiculous. But on the other side the team that played today can keep the ball better.

Fair play to Nico for his two goals

Our corners show the old adage is true.
If you throw enough shit some sticks : )

Karen Carney still looks lethal. 2 bottles of white wine in her and she could well cut your cock off in your sleep after she has taken all the sleeves off your shirts and slashed your tyres
John Wayne Bobbit likes this post !!!

I'm disappointed they didn't ask Nico about the 115 charges in post-match interview

Dawn French wazza the granny shagger :-)

Your boys took one hell of a BEATING !!
I would have said Tommy Tynan and Francis Drake tbh ;-)

Surprised they didn't have a bit of fun with the Francis Drake and the Spanish connection etc.

Fans nowadays (apart from us), no creativity.

The way Plymouth set up made scoring from open play incredibly difficult and we nearly did several times in the first half from chances created from wide areas. They were smart enough not to commit too many forward when they did get the ball, but not enough to actually score. Anyone complaining about our wing play needs to have another look at how compressed Plymouth were and how little support there was in the box from our forwards.

Well in. Have a soft spot for Plymouth having lived there for some years.

Fair play to them, and their manager seems a good bloke. Plus they got rid of the scousers.
Manager is lovely. I also liked post match interview with their goal scorer - Ukrainian not seen his family for 3 years.

Job done at walking pace. Shame they scored as they didn’t have a sniff other than that.

We need to be sharper in front of goal.

Well done Nico.

Next.
Had we had the same chances last season they were goals. Gundog seems to get the chances but is not having the best of luck, Haaland missed one that was harder to put over the bar than under it.

I dont reallynknow what your point is with that. The game moves on very quickly, teams that dont adapt fall away. We've seen all season long that we are devoid of chance creation if we dont have a winger that can beat a man. Both those players were on different levels then and we also had a sprightly gundogan, a kdb that could power past anybody on the planet, a foden that could dance past defenders, Alvarez and mahrez who provided guaranteed energy, creativity and goals. We're not close to being the same treble winning side even if most players remain.

Had either of doku or savinho started that game tonight we'd have coasted it from start to finish instead of making it an effort.

Didn't like the false nine today but we created a lot and didn't concede much. My first game at Maine Road was against Plymouth and we won 2-1, so I suppose 3-1 shows we've progressed somewhat in those 40 or so years.

Grealish and Lewis both need shooting practice, I think I'm going to have to check YouTube to see if Jack has ever had a shot that didn't hit the defender, but that ball by him into the box in the second half was incredible.

Saw a bit too much of us just booting the ball high and long too, to clear our lines. Suppose it's a sign of where we are are now but would have preferred a cool head at times to get it under control. There was a period of play with about 20 aimless headers as we played head tennis in the middle of the park, before I think it was Reis or Gundo brought out down and back to Ortega, and all of a sudden the game was our again.

Pleased for Nico O'Reilly, but surprised to hear Pep say he sees him as a 10, I can't figure it out though so maybe trust Pep. But to be able to offer those kind of options in our general play, always open for a pass, physically able to hold the ball, and always seemed to find the right pass, before we even mention his goal scoring ability, are very valuable assets.

Preston at home next please, or the raggies as we owe them one. Just wait for TV to move it to Mother's Day on the Sunday and cause rifts across Greater Manchester.

Shame about Ake, hopefully precautionary, but does also mean that Gvardiol, Khusa, Marmoush, Doku and Savinho all get extra rest. Big game next weekend.

Reis looks class, legs like springs, the height he was jumping for headers was unbelievable.

Nice to see us score from a corner too, I can't remember the last time we scored from one.

Congratulations to O'Reilly, scoring a brace at any level from fullback is some achievement, him Reis and Khusanov bear well for the future defensively and boy do we need it.

Looking at who's left in this comp I'll be disappointed if we don't at least make the final because it's been a long time since the season was over before May
Seasons not over even if we lose next round - need to get top 4

yes both wingers had two players against them at all times

Really poor which is on pep with the starting 11, we’ve no mid-week game should’ve gone strongest 11 & smashed them 1st hlf then rested players, delighted for o’Riley looks a player, but in his natural position
You said "no game midweek"

We played last mid week!

You said " should've gone strongest 11 then rested players"

Rested players for what, the game we don't have mid week

We won 3 - 1!

They had 9 outfielders in the box whenever they didn’t have the ball. No way Doku or Savinho would fare much better when they’re being marked by 2 defenders each with more of them denying space in the middle. Would just be more of the spurs game, cut inside and bang a cross into the defender in the channel.

it's funny that this guy always played comedy Irishmen on robin's nest and Fawlty towers, but a respected stage actor back home. Anyway quite like Karen Carney's obvious appreciation of Kevin.
Was he Kelly, with 1 arm?
