8 second rule

Why was it abandoned in the first place?
Because like the pulling shirt in the penalty box fiasco, all of these are threats put in place for the first month or two max just to show the authorities are doing things 'to improve the game', and then soon ignored as 'they will ruin the game' if continually consistently applied.

Typical football industry lip service shite.

What a fantastic idea then 2-3 weeks in it’ll fall by the wayside like it did before for this,a load of bollocks only be applied when it benefits you know who..

Only way it would work would be if a countdown clock appeared on the screen. Obs this would be open to manipulation at the rags and dips but plus ca change

Won't stop a goalie going down once the ball goes out of play faking an injury to time waste
It won't stop any player doing that, or speed up taking goal kicks or throw ins or free kicks.
But it will stop keepers making a simple catch, clutching the ball to chest, dropping to his knees then onto the floor and lying there for 20 seconds+ while team mates give his hair a ruffle a pat him on the back like he's dived full length across the ground and tipped a rocket shot over the cross bar.

Wonder if it will change our tactics slightly. Not that we're serial offenders by any means (albeit we get a definite yellow for it whereas most opponents get a few warnings first), but it may simply just mean we can't get players in space to release the ball short. I foresee a few more long passes from Eddie to the forwards.

The other important aspect of this is to ensure it's applied not just in the last ten minutes, too many officials don't seen to think time wasting even exists until close to full time. Otherwise, as others have said, Pickford won't last until ten minutes in any game. I envisage it being applied rigourously for a week to two, before we again only see yellows in the final few minutes and referees claiming they did not did not reach five depending on the situation and regardless of whatever the accurist timer says.
