They will never have that reality check. As a club and as a fan base they do not li've in the reality that everybody else does. In their closed minds they ARE the top dogs, they ARE the very best the world has ever seen, it's us that should be languishing at the foot of the table, alongside the dippers, tarquins, chavs and anybody else threatening their perch. There is none so blind as those who will not see.
The club (and the teams that club produced) before and since the Pisscan are the real rags: not the club that benefitted from the formation of the Premier League and received an avalanche of cash from Sly Sports: and not the club whose success was built entirely on 'favourable' refereeing decisions, or an unprecedented amount of fortunate home draws against lower league clubs in pretty much every cup game they've played, and an ever-fawning media with a bunch of tabloid hacks always on hand to hide any unpalatable truths that might arise.
They have been protected for so long now the club knows no other way to function. Any time their backs are against the wall someone or something comes along to help them out. A person, a group of persons, a set of circumstances, there will always be something to save the rags - sometimes behind the scenes so that we, the great public, know nothing about it, but often in full view of the paying public (last year's FA Cup semi-final -being one amongst many many others- springs to mind).
Without the extraordinarily favourable refereeing decisions they've had over the years they would have been relegated a long time ago. They would not have achieved the success they did under the hammer and sickle of the Gill/Pisscan partnership. That is a fact. It is also the reality check they will never ever accept.
