Villa were absolute twats at that League Cup final starting trouble with elderly City fans and children. We saw it on the train going and after the match. One of them picked a fight with me at the Ibis Wembley making racist insults towards our owner. I was then over 60 and he was in his 20s. They were worst than the scousers in their final against us. I was pretty neutral towards them but now have a different view. Stan Collymore doesn't help either.
To be fair,we stayed in the prem inn for that final at wembley park,in the bar right after the game and into the night their fans were ok.But I heard how bad they had been off other mates and on here. I confronted a few on the walk back after they had a go at my then 16 yr old nephew, they soon fkd off when they got a reaction.

I've been the majority of our wembley visits over the last decade and they were worse than the Scousers and United, so that says something !! Proper gobsh**es and who were pining for a fight with any group of City fans. The whole of the City bingo card was used that weekend

Well he didn't really. He'd show up for 4 games, fall over and spend the next 4 months at home on crutches. Fucking robbed us blind then did the same to Villa. Made of glass the loud mouthed prick. Saw his arse when he realised Zabba was 10 times the player he could ever be.

Had one outstanding game in my eyes, the sick swan. Every other he was a speed merchant, brainless twat who couldn't defend.
He never recovered from playing in the Olympics (think it was that) no rest, injury and was like Yaya in Yaya's twilight years....took forever to get back after an attack and a shadow of Zabs.

Barring his early-ish years and being too muscle bound and slow my main memory of his was looking round at Ewood Park when we were all singing about being (not) fit to wear the shirt and holding his badge......I can do that but can't prove it on the pitch, he couldn't either.

In recent years he's become an embarrassment almost if I've ever seen 10 secs of him on TV.

Step forward both Nedum and Joe!!!!

In an era where people can stream live matches to their phones (legitimately or otherwise) the 3pm blackout is a total anachronism. It represents the last vestiges of Bob Lord's opposition to any live league football on TV and as talk increases of clubs taking on the rights to stream their own matches via dedicated channels it will surely just die a natural death.
Maybe it won’t have an effect on the lower league clubs and all the people who have been calling for its end will be proven right, but I personally don’t think it’s worth the risk in trying.Virtually no other countries have such a strong football pyramid, where the 5th, 6th and even 7th tiers are getting attendances into the thousands. Why risk that because it doesn’t suit the big clubs?

I know some lads who go and watch Kings Lynn in the Northern Premier (I know, it’s crackers they’re in that) and I can tell you that, if the rags were playing the dippers at 3 on a Saturday, live on tv, and they had Curzon Ashton away, they’d definitely be at the Tameside Stadium…

I agree. But ‘surely’ is doing a lot of lifting in that post (and your earlier one!)

If the pyramid is that robust it’ll withstand tv games at 3pm. The early games currently finish at what, 2.25pm?, and the late game 5.30pm.
In practical terms not many can watch the early game now then leave home at 2.25pm on a Saturday to go and watch a game, or see a 3pm and be home in front of the telly by 5.30pm, so any impact is already taking place.

And all the juicy PL games that might theoretically tempt lower league fans are already moved from Sat 3pm anyway.

More widely, and I expect most will disagree, I wonder if we don’t have too many full time professional clubs in this country. We do have an enormous pyramid, and when I hear reports from Rick Parry etc about how they are struggling I think well ok, maybe more semi pro teams and less pro teams would be a more natural order of things.

It’s 2025 not 1925 and people have a lot more leisure time options than they did when most people worked 5 and a half days every week, and footy on a Saturday afternoon was “just what you did”. I am not sure having so many full time professional clubs is viable long term (but if it is then great).

You misunderstand a little- it isn't just for the professional teams. Live football has a massive impact on lower league (level 9 for example - 14 divisions) and knocking a small number off the crowd can be devastating. I know when Macc Town were in League 2 if United played live on TV on a Tuesday it would reduce the crowd (which was already only 1500) by about 10% (150). What's 150?? A couple of grand at today's rates and that matters to lower crowds. To extrapolate, at level nine that may be a loss of just £200 but this money adds up. Should we just say bollocks to it and let teams go to the wall because they aren't as 'big and important as us' - cos they are as important to the regulars who go even if only a copole of hundred. As Haaland rightly says "stay humble"

Last Saturday watched Preston v Burnley on TV, headed off to Highbury to watch Fleetwood v Notts County then hone in time for City v Plymouth. If Carlsberg did Saturdays finished in Cleveleys Spoons. A loss a draw and a win for my three favourite teams, but watch all three in one day was amazing. Got away with it as my missus was on a night out with her slimming club or I would have had the phrase football widow used in our house.

Of course there’s a simple answer to all this, as there often is.
Make the PL a Sunday league, save for any teams playing in the CL the following Tuesday. They could play 1230 and 1730 on the Saturday (or even 2000 on the Friday) and thus leave Saturday free for the rest of the pyramid. It’s then not a huge stretch to have all the PL games available for broadcasting. It’d also mean far less fannying around with date and kick off changes. Everyone’s a winner…..

EDIT. Of course, it would need a fundamental shift in Sunday public transport arrangements!

How difficult is it to arrange 4 games? Not like there's any derbys or anything to negotiate with the police
It isn't difficult but every year the TV companies make it so. The awkward things this year is that in all games at least one of the teams is scheduled to play a PL game on the Tuesday after the weekend thus in theory ruling out any Sunday games. Presumably they will want to play two FA Cup games on Saturday and two on Sunday so that will mean moving games. However at this late stage there will be fans who will have booked time off, accommodation, travel etc for the PL games not that the FA will care so someone will be shafted either way. ITV have first pick then next two picks are BBC and ITV have the last pick.
