But have the two 'big dogs' of the world stage basically realised that instead of being in conflict with each other that they're better off being on friendly terms and then they can refocus their efforts on taking what they want rather than basically cancelling each other out.

- Russia could take Ukraine and the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania)
- The US could take Greenland and Canada
And I guess China could take Taiwan.

As long as they don't have conflicting interests then I don't see why the above can't happen if the US leave NATO.

He is retracting and clearly over stepped his mark on his current Thursday speech. "We don't need Japan, Japan need us" is utter insanity. Japan hold a few major naval bases for US.

Because this is a man who has never cared about the consequences of his actions and until they are explained to him in crayons like a five-year-old he doesn’t get it, and many times not even then. Of course this has only been patently obvious to anyone with an IQ above that of the average carpet remnant for his nearly forty motherfucking years as a public figure, so, you know . . .

I mean, it has been blatantly obvious since the start that he has been trying to reignite the space race. I am sure he is trying to sell shares on Mars and backing Musk to be the pioneer. He seems to forget about the international space station and the structure of satellites that exist.

All the conspiracy theories about Trump being a Russian asset or that there is serious compromat at work are, in my view, unnecessary and probably wrong.
You have to remember that:
- Trump is ignorant about almost everything.
- Trump is thick as a brick and cannot understand simple concepts.
- Trump is a narcissist and he is delusional. He really believes he can be the world’s peacemaker and has repositioned US just to get Putin on side. He thinks he can repivot once the Ukraine war is over.
He wants, and believes he can win, the Nobel Peace Prize.

I've said it before. He thinks about the personal first order effects of his actions, and nothing more. What will his actions achieve for HIM. He rarely gets it right because he never thinks about the second and third order consequences. All those who say he's 'playing 3-D chess' are just falling into the trap of believing he's clever, when in reality he's occasionally lucky.

Completely agree. I think in his head he is establishing a new world order. I don't think Russia comes in to the equation in that thought process so much at all.

Into the mix:
* Trump admires dictators. Especially those who flatter him.
* Trump hates Zelinsky b/c he refused to dig up fake dirt on Biden during Trump's first term in office.
* Trump has surrounded himself with loyalists the bulk of whom (but not all, e.g., Rubio) are isolationists and who absolutely do not support Ukraine.
* Trump is wishy-washy, often changing his mind based on whomever last spoke to him.

Everything that has happened with regard to US support for Ukraine and Trump's aggression towards NATO is explained by the framework above.

Yes, kompromat against Trump may exist, but the existence of such is completely unnecessary to explain Trump's actions.

I'd looked at a map of the old Soviet Union, looked which counties would be easiest for Russia to take next if they were going westwards and the Baltic States plus Moldova would be the obvious ones.

(I guess counties like Georgia and some of the 'stans would also be there for the taking although I don't know how they now align with China so maybe not.)

Then the countries Trump has mentioned. And quite possibly the most likely one of the lot China taking Taiwan.

I'm sure there's lots of books (1984 as already mentioned.) fiction and non fiction that deal with this topic. If I'm thinking about it then someone a lot smarter than I am would've been writing about this a long ago.

Any film, book or game suggestions along that line would be welcomed if anyone knows any.

Although I haven't read it, "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley could be worth a look.
