Nottingham Forest (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Yeah, you've described a pretty decent defensive performance for most of the game! considering those two things happened after the 70th minute.. wouldnt you say the opponent not entering our box for 70 minute is decent defending?
If anything knowing we defended well for 60-70mins before the subs completely fucked us makes it worse

A long way from where we need to be but also a long way from where we were a month or so with the capitulations etc.

The defence looked a lot better especially with Khusanov but very little service from the wide men….which reduced to zero when Bernardo was moved out wide…..couldn’t understand that one !

It’s the lack of creativity that we are suffering from and although Pep gets criticism for not making subs….I thought he changed it too much today.

Not sure why he took Nico off…but we were not as solid once he had gone off.

A great save from Ederson but should have done much better for the goal.

We get caught out time and time again playing the inverted full back which forces Gvardiol to move towards the middle and then leaves a big gap for the right winger……..I think most of our woes this season stem from persisting this tactic.

Top four still within reach….but gone are the days where we always expected to win these sort of games.

Pep should be worried about our record against the top four over the last two seasons.

No risk. No reward. No balls. Forest are very good defensively with time to set up. If only we had a manager this year. Nevermind. Maybe next year.

Frankly when your best player every game is a 19 year centre back new to the league, then it suggests everyone else is poor.

We could have had Wirtz and Bellingham out their today and we still wouldn't have got the ball to Haaland.
The tactics have moved on Pep hasn't.

Nott'm Forest 1-0 Man City

Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola to BBC Match of the Day: "Tight game, we controlled the long balls to [Chris] Wood and second balls in transition. But in second half we lost once in transition and Callum Hudson-Odoi finished it really well.

"It is not easy to play against them. That is why they are where they are. We had three or four chances in the first half. Second half it was a bit more tight. We concede one chance in the near post, so in the end the balance was for them."

On the pace of City's play in the second half: "Yes it was slow. We struggled to break the lines and find spaces."

I've said this before we have to be very careful where we go from here, it really could tip either way. There are similarities to the rag side at the end of Ferguson's reign. An ageing side which was allowed to go on too long. They then spunked shit loads of money on so called proved superstars like Pogba and Sanchez and it failed miserably.
You’ve hit the nail on the head. Also worth remembering the last Ferguson side won the league by ten points before it all went to shit, sound familiar?

The midfield and attack were absolute crap. No creativity at all from any of them. Dross

Could Grealish be any worse than Kova? I doubt it. Ridiculous 1st time swing at the ball when we had the chance to break, he had time to put his foot on the ball, move forward and then make the pass but the numbskull makes that silly 1st time pass and 20 seconds later, we are 1 down.

Zero creativity and Erl did not seem to make an effort, can understand why as we are so slow it must be very frustrating for him

Kovacic isn't a holding midfielder, he can't read the game, can't sense danger, wants to dribble every time and can't pick a pass. Every time pep puts him there and bernardo right wing for that matter, we may as well pack up and go home.
