It's just a season of transition. The creative midfielder, who used to provide those through balls for the wingers to cross or move the ball into the box for an easy killer pass, is gone. Silva has left, and De Bruyne hasn’t been fully fit this season. The wingers have had to figure it out themselves, making it harder to play. The ball rarely reaches Haaland. Foden and others haven't reached that level yet. We've lacked balance for a while, which isn’t unusual—no team is ever perfect. Even in our best seasons, we weren’t flawless; we won titles without a proper striker or a defender who could consistently intercept the ball.
But this season, though we have a striker in Haaland and good wingers, we lack a creative midfielder, a solid defensive midfielder, and our defenders are still weak, even though things have improved slightly with the addition of Khusanov. The team needs a near-complete overhaul. Even with a great manager, the gaps are too large because we've spent too little for too long. Now, everything is falling apart at once, and we’ll just have to wait. It might not even come together next season. But as fans, we can still cheer, complain, or even call for changes—it's just part of being a football fan. Celebrate the wins, criticize the losses.
