the fact is the league is so competitive nowadays and as others have said other teams have caught up on us.

we need a huge rebuild job in the summer with fresh ideas and dynamic, hungry players.

To me I also think Pep could do with a new assistant coach.

Whether it can be done in one summer will e the question.
 
Very disappointing performance capped off with Ederson allowing himself to be beaten at his near post. There was no speed in our passing and both wingers were ineffective. I would have liked to see Nico O'Reilly come on in a more advanced role. Even though he had poor service I would have taken Erling off and had Marmoush up front. I know he prefers playing off a forward, but their defence was comfortable in dealing with Erling and maybe his pace and dribbling skills would have caused them more problems.
 
I couldn't help but contrast the current City team with the Notts Forest one in Brian Clough's final years, as they slipped down towards relegation. Clearly, we remain in a far better position, but Pep's choices and refusal to try something new and different are not working out - as Clough's didn't in his final years.

I'm convinced that we have the players already at the club to turn this round but, if we don't feed Haaland we either shouldn't play him, or, we play a different set up. Maybe Bobb or Ecceveri will provide solutions, and Reiss needs to be in the back 4 too - he, O'Reilly or Khusanov can play full back; the present full backs can't defend, and that's been a frequent defensive downfall - notwithstanding all the injury issues.

How often do we have to keep repeating the same mistakes before realising the insanity of what's going on?

Apart from a lot of possession and the odd chance, there was nothing much to cheer yesterday. As the 80th minute neared, how many of us thought we'd see the game out? As time passed, how many of us thought that we'd get an equaliser? Not many, I bet - and more worryingly, I don't think the players believed they could either.

Our days - of pulling a game out of the bag late - finished about 6 months ago.

I think this too. We need to replace Kevin and it will take more than one player. He not only gave us assists but also goals with both feet, vision and dynamism. Even yesterday when he came on he found space and played the ball forward on most occasions. Why is it, he is the only one to make overlapping and underlapping runs for our wingers. Why isn't Foden making those runs or anyone for that matter. We need to fullbacks as well. With the right recruitment, Pep will turn this round.

Another post that gives definite food for thought. We were under no serious pressure from Forest but you just got the feeling we were susceptible to conceding. It was a very poor offering from us overall, especially on the back of a full weeks prep.

I can't say that I agree with your claim that we have the players at the club to turn this around though. We certainly do have some very good players and also some with great potential. However, it's becoming clear who needs to depart and subsequently where we need to reinforce. RB, CM,AM positions need bolstering. The GK situation could be a issue in the near future as well.
 
On a wing and a prayer that was us yesterday , the two young wingers was the game plan for the first 70 minutes ,plan b when the game opened up fell down when kovatich failed a 5 yard pass its fine margins at this level,
yesterday hurt , but there are some good signs that we are slowly turning a corner,
we have just played chelsea,newcastle.liverpool ,spurs, forest and are still in the chase , brighton is huge now ,i promise no happy clapping if we screw that one up
 
I would like to see us go to a 442 setup against teams who park the bus and hit us with quick breaks.

Just to be clear Pep’s tactics aren’t past it, some of his players are though.
I find it amazing that some fans think our slow build up play is down to Pep.
A manager that’s won everything there is to win playing fast flowing football, probably some of the best football I’ve ever seen.
His football also has his players pressing the opposition hard and fast, which forces mistakes.
We don’t do that anymore.
We always worked hard off the ball to find space. now we’re just static.
Is that down to Pep?
Nope, he’s clearly as frustrated as we are, probably more so.
That’s obvious, he’s always played this way.
He’s hardly gonna tell his players I want you to play slower, not press them as hard and pass the ball sideways with no end product.
He’s commented in the past about his players not shooting enough.
You can see his anger on the bench when players aren’t doing what they’ve trained to do.
We are now a lazy team trying to play an high energy system.
So he could change the system.
He won’t do that, he’s always played this way, with little tweaks along the way.
His first season with us tells us that.
His first season some players weren’t good enough for his system, which led to us conceding easy goals like we are now.
The system didn’t change, the players did.
So we either get rid of the aging injury ridden knackered players or we get rid of Pep, but rest assured if Pep goes them players still need replacing.
The shite we’re currently watching isn’t Pep’s system at all.
His system is like a well oiled machine, every part has to be working 100%, when this happens it’s a thing of beauty.
We’re probably running about 50% at best which is the current shit show we’re currently watching.
I’ve made peace with it this season and have no doubt it’ll happen again.
For anyone wanting Pep gone though, be careful what you wish for.

Your a bit of a halfwit yourself posting comments like that which deflect reality. In sport your only as good as your last game. Currently our form has drifted company with anything approaching a satisfactory level. While some of the comments are OTT they are reflecting a growing anxiety regarding what is happening both on the pitch and behind the scenes. Fears from entitled fair weather clowns like yourself maybe.

The vast majority of matchgoing blues have the common sense to realise that we’re bedding in several new signings while easing some great servants towards the exit door and so results will be inconsistent

As for your anxiety about what is happening behind the scenes - you don’t have a clue what happens there. All the signs however point to us being the best run club in the league and one transitional season of mildly disappointing results doesn’t change that
