Andy Burnham | Manchester Mayor

They think the general public are thick but the numbers are astounding & when you have to lie so badly then you know it doesn’t stack up. It’s fraud.

1st thing is the comparison with the regeneration of East Manchester. A 60k stadium, 24k arena, Etihad campus, 4star hotel. Surely the wise investment would be to piggy back on that than try & build the same in another location a few miles away. You’d at least ask how many billions are they making?

The government should be looking & saying good idea but why there? Why not North East or midlands?

The people of the North East and the Midlands should be very forcibly asking that very question.

Sorry if already stated, if so, I have missed it, but..........

Once the council have paid for the removal of the freight terminal and remediation of the land, is this just to be given to the red shite, or do they need to purchase it for the hundreds of millions it will be worth
That’s what I’m not clear on.

Is it government land?
If so then I don’t mind as long as the land is sold on at the right price.

Is it owned by somebody else and this is a sweetener to get them to move their tenants out so we can improve the train infrastructure in the region?
Again, okay if it can be shown the wider region (not just the immediate area) can benefit to more than that value. Or, we get a share of any profits from the new land they’re moving to.

These facts should have been calculated by now. No government should be spending £300M without a full assessment.

Absolutely spot on, and a great question.

Another question for Burnham is where exactly are these 92,000 new jobs going to be working or is it just utter bullshit from the scouser

Good point.
The owners of the land should sell it to the highest bidder. How many homes could be built on that land ?

This charade, I nearly wrote circus, needs to stop. If it makes economic sense for the rail terminal to be moved, move it. Then build the houses there.

If that had happened to me there is no way In would pay the fine.
The Illegal Immigrant should be made to work to pay off the fine, and for his accommodation, food, water and all associated costs of keeping him, along with his boat fare back to France or air fare back to his home country.

How strange that most of these Illegal criminals are male, 20/30, leather jackets, designer trainers and phones but, Cilla Cilla, NO PASSPORT.

Britain is broken and the world's gorn maaaaad !!

If anyone has any question about how the Meccano set, removal of the freight terminal, the cost of clearing the ship canal and where exactly do the 92000 jobs come from etc etc then please do not hesitate to call Radio Manchester on a Thursday morning between 10 and 11am.
Burnham is on the Milke Sweeny programme then answering questions about what matters to the listeners.
I am sure we have enough questions to ask to keep the hour busy for the next week or so.

Please can we keep the politics out of here.
This farce has nothing to do with immigration, illegal or otherwise.

You know very well that 'yewnytid the homeless' won't get any assistance of any kind from any body for this project.

Scruffy jimrat & the Glazers are booking freight plans as I type to repatriate billions of tax evaded £s, $s & €s to hand to Burn em for the tent.

These are honourable, responsible and fair minded gennlemen we're discussing with a philanthropic approach to life.....don't you know !!

The FT reporting on the cost of moving the rail freight hub quote Burnham. “The current figure is between £200mn and £300mn,” he said, but added that historic proposals for resolving that rail congestion had a £1bn price tag.

When he has spent £300m he will be coming back for more taxpayers money.

Exactly this. Someone has to pay for it to be done but ALL the private businesses are looking at the tax payers because I don’t think any of them see a route to making a quick enough profit from the move from any investment.

We all know Ineos, Glazers and Peel Holdings are tight fisted bastards.

One of my questions in my Foi submission which I intend to make. Ive also asked who owns the land at the moment, will it be subject to a compulsory purchase order and what is the value of the land and who will be the long term owners?

The people of the North East and the Midlands should be very forcibly asking that very question.
Governments do not care for us in the North East.
The mayor of Teesside has just came out and claimed that the government have tried to tell the Saudi’s not to invest here, but in the Cambridge corridor instead.
Fortunately it looks like they are taking no notice.

Warrington BC is still waiting for Peel to upgrade the swing bridges across the Manchester Ship Canal, and have been for at least 5 years. All the local authorities from Liverpool to Trafford Park should be clubbing together and refuse Peel any planning permissions until they have improved the locks and bridges.
