Brighton and Hove Albion PL (H) | Post Match Thread

Exactly ! How many of the starting 11 yesterday would you say would be a regular starters in a champions league winning team ( if we were to get back to that standard ) - my guess would be one.
So why did we buy, Dias, Gvardiol, Khusanov, Marmoush, Savinho, Doku, Nico for a total of nearly 300 million. I'll exclude Haaland as I assume that's the 1 you mention.

So if he were to win The Champions league with Bayern this season as well as the Bundesliga he would be unproven?
You mention there is no sentiment in football so at what point do you call time on Pep?
He hasn’t won either yet, which is why I said it now. If he wins either the Bundesliga and/or the CL then of course the conversation is there to be had, but as yet he’s not.

As for Pep, that isn’t sentiment, that’s giving him the chance to sort the squad out after 9 complete years of dominance. He deserves that at the bare minimum.

Look at who scored the goals in 21/2. KbD 15, Sterling 13, Mahrez 11, Foden 9, Gundogan 8, Bernardo 8. Now we have wingers who cannot score and are reliant on mid-fielders who also contribute no goals
I am not sure what thats got to do with what I said, you just seem to be reeling off negatives you have.

Anyway, what do you want changing I forgot... Was it sack the manager ?

With 3 exceptions there that is a question that some of us wonder about

After watching that Arse v Chelsea match, I don't think we are as bad as some on here think we are. Chelsea in particular are absolute shite!

The team with no head, body or tail, this team and its perceived rebuild going absolutely nowhere. We moved into rags territory in less than a season.
Some of Gvardiol's body language and grimaces when he played on my side of the ground and repeatedly misplaced passes was abhorrent. I cannot believe that Laporte or Cancelo were dealt with so expressly when this bunch of twats turned into Brighton tribute team and Pep is doing nothing. The only good thing coming out of this I ll see even more of Saturday 3pm games.

You stated there was a lot to look forward to next season. I was merely pointing out the decline in the standard of recruitment and their failure to match the contributions of previous squad members and unfortunately the decline of our mid-field contributors. I do not share your current hopes

We have a £50m midfielder who we signed from Wolves, is quick and potentially a good foil for Nico Gonzales who hasn’t played in his own position all year. We have an 18/19
y.o Nico O’Reilly who scored 2 goals from corners and hasn’t played in his position. And Pep wanted to keep McAtee as in his words we have nobody that can play in spaces. When picked tends to be on the wing. And we have Grealish who was motm v Forest at home in the 8 position but not played there since. And rotation of the keepers earlier in the season clearly impacted both. Rant over but it’s pretty frustrating.

Given that Bayern are 9 points ahead I think that's 1 down

A bit over-analytical for some on here

No I am not worried. Not yet anyway. We've played for years without certain roles filled. We won a title without a striker. For me it's the players understanding the system that needs to happen. That won't happen in two months.

We've had an horrendous year for injuries, we are being in a new spine of the team. That isn't seemless is it. It needs time surely.
I couldn't agree with you more, G_T. I have a quiet confidence in what's to come. I have, as my friends have told me, been mysteriously muted this season both in victory and in defeat. After 10 matches I thought that we were not going to win the league. I didn't let it dampen my enthusiasm for the team.
With our injuries, the newer, eventually very promising lads we've both brought into the team and those we've acquired, looking forward, I'm confident. The one thing that I think that we need the most is a leader on the pitch. Kev was that, Gundo and Bernardo also to a certain extent Walker. Those guys are not it any longer. I hope Rodri can be "that" guy when he returns.
Looking forward to winning the Cup, qualifying for Europe and watching the rag empire go from rabble to dust.

Best player on the pitch , still can’t believe how he spooned that chance that would have given them 3 points which they deserved
If he signs for City in the summer, we'll know why :-)

I saw an article claiming that our under 21's were trialling a radical new tactic where the keeper pushes up into the opposition half.
Thought it was a few weeks early (April Fools Day) but who knows with Pep?
we tried it with 5 minutes to go corner to city everyone bar ortage in their penalty area and score at 2-2 laughable real ortage should atleast be on halfway line ;)

I disagree that the rebuild is going nowhere. The players we’ve brought in have all shown glimpses of improving us.

The problem is that we’ve lost arguably the three most significant parts of Pep’s system in Rodri, Walker and KDB. Replacing them in January was always going to be a difficult task.

I think it’s clear that Ederson, Stones or Ake, KDB, Walker, Gundogan will all leave. There’s also question marks over Grealish, Kovacic and Bernardo.

This summer is when we go out and sign the key components to get us competing at the top level again.

Please elaborate on the promising lads we have brought into the team... I can only think of 1

My dad mentioned that yesterday how the hell that works I’ve no idea, Shirley the opposition just hoof it down the pitch to an empty net!

Khusanov is quality, Marmoush looks dangerous and Nico will be good given time to get up to speed.
I agree on K but the jury is still out on M after his performance at Forest. As for Nico speed is not a word you would associate with him

When's the last time you can remember a substitution improving things in a game?
