Brighton and Hove Albion PL (H) | Post Match Thread

After watching that Arse v Chelsea match, I don't think we are as bad as some on here think we are. Chelsea in particular are absolute shite!
We are as bad as some on here think we are.
arsenal are worse than they were last year and chelsea are poor.
liverpool are going to win a league with less points than when they have finished as a runner up.
When you add in united and spurs form this season, it highlights how poor the so called top 6 teams have been.

As bad as Arsenal are and a dire watch at least they have a set piece coach who has ensured they can deliver a corner and score from it

I'v heard all this shit before, flappers getting cold feet, cant see anything but dooom. We were exactly the same when he came to our club, tiki taka wont work, he cant compete in the PL.... by that Leicester and Everton games I was ready for him to go.... Anyway we stuck with him and the club was on fire after that. For me its wait and see this time. I am not going to start flapping yet, it was embarrassing last time.
Pep evolves teams, give it time before you cut your nose off. It does not happen over night or even in 1/2 season.

New players will come good, team will be more cohesive.
There is a fundamental difference now, though...

When Pep arrived, we/he knew he'd have time to create a Pep team - this time around we pretty much know that he'll only be giving City a couple of seasons.

it's no longer a case of simply filtering a couple of new players into a group of serial trophy winners and the mindset that comes with it - but instead creating, virtually from scratch, a new unit. Will two seasons really be enough?

Obviously I hope it is, but it may be unrealistic to expect 100% from him if he doesn't hand-on-heart believe that he's going to be around to reap the benefits.

We are paying the price for absolutely dreadful recruitment for 2 years and Pep fucking around with whether he leaving or not.

Absolutely no chance we are getting a champions league place - we haven’t beaten a decent team all season and look a complete mess. Bounemouth Villa Brighton far better than us.

Laughable that we are in this position.
I assume this is a troll post. We have beaten 2 teams above us a total of 3 times. And the clubs you mention are all below us in the league.

That’s the spirit pal.

It is an absolute disgrace that we are not competing for an unprecedented fifth title on the bounce having completed an unprecedented four on the bounce.

No team or player is allowed an off season having achieved something that no other team has ever done. No manager is allowed an off season having delivered 13 major trophies and 5 not so major in the last 9 years.

We’re fucking fifth in the table with more than a decent chance of CL qualification.

We really are that bad!

Brighton had the clearer chances and would have won if they hadn't missed two golden chances. All our problems were highlighted by a side with energy and pace able to exploit our vulnerability in wide areas. Our full backs (do we have genuine full backs?) play high up when we attack but the problem comes when the attack breaks down. Our backs cannot get back quickly enough and our midfield lacks energy and pace. No longer does our once superb press operate at all and Brighton passed through midfield with ease as others have done, especially as Doku and Savinho accept no responsibility at all for defence.

I’m watching Newcastle spank the dippers.
With Burns height they’re causing them all sorts of problems from set pieces.

We have Haaland but couldn’t land a punch on Liverpool from set pieces or in open play.
How can we be so poor from set pieces with a players like Haaland and Gvardiol

I saw an article claiming that our under 21's were trialling a radical new tactic where the keeper pushes up into the opposition half.
Thought it was a few weeks early (April Fools Day) but who knows with Pep?
It's a load of bollocks. Kasper Schmeichel said it but no idea what he's been watching. I've never seen it in practice this season.

All down to coaching, and in our case a severe lack of it

I get that. But a club of our size. How do we not have a top class set piece coach.

We had Jover the arsenal coach until they poached him, but who on earth have we replaced him with, if indeed we replaced him at all.
It seems like a huge issue in our game which has been a problem for years and doesn’t seem to be getting fixed.

No we don’t have any real fullbacks in my mind, Lewis is not good in that position neither is Nunes, Gvardiol is okej offensively but not in defence, its now you realize how important Walker with his speed was for us imagen if he could hit a decent play into the box he would have been the best fullback by far,
But that is a position that need strengthen same is the creativity in the midfield we need a new Bernardo and KDB, we been spoiled first we had David Silva and then KDB 2 very great players, we are nowhere near thier kapacity now, what do worries me is the wingers can't really se Doku And Savinho be the goal scoring and assist making wingers we need hope they prove me wrong. Guimares at Newcastle would be a good signing for our central midfield but think they did go for Nico instead. But who will replace Ederson?

Agree what coaches do we have? Is Hugo Vianna up to this task he got? Have we lost many coaches this summer?

Who says younger quality players wanted to sign for us?

With the quality ahead of them over the last 8 years, how do we know they didn’t look at City and think ‘well David Silva is the most consistent around and De Bruyne’s the best there’s ever been, Foden is coming through the ranks… I’ll look elsewhere’?

Plus, I wouldn’t leave my job and start working for a company with 130 legal charges hanging over them, no matter the assurances and things I could get written into my contract.

How many players have we missed out on with them thinking ‘fuck moving my family from another country to sign for City if I have to move again in 12 months because they’re guilty of the charges’.

Players will just think ‘fuck em, I’m not taking the risk with those dodgy fuckers’… even if we’re not guilty, we are known as cheats everywhere by everyone. Even if we end up being cleared, the reputational damage had been done over the years. We could clear all 130 and still be seen as cheats across the football world.
That is a good post. Can’t say I always agree with your posts ( most but..) but that is a thoughtful one indeed.

Their free kick yesterday seemed to happen in slow motion.

Ball gets hoofed down the pitch and gvardiol chests it and was too slow to get it away.

He has to be quicker in his decision making.

I think the last sentence is the crux of the problem. Yesterday we are effectively playing 424.

Ask the manager, as for Newcastle, brilliant, great fans, ( no cockney accents ) as for Liverpool, trebles are not for everyone!
