CL Quarter Final MCFC v Chelsea

Thanks Alex. Loved it. Got pie, mash and gravy and a free Bovril all for £6.50. Toilets even had hand blowers! Sat down first half then moved behind the goal standing up for the second. Left bang on the full time whistle, walked across the road and jumped on a tram back to town. Absolutely brilliant night in every aspect.
Yeah the value for money is second to none. We used to get free bovril with our season ticket but they recently told me it was soft drink, water, tea or coffee. Gutted. Hoping it was just a mistake ha.

I sit bang on the half way line a few rows up so the view is great. Glad you got to move around a bit and experience different parts of the stadium. If you enjoy it you should definitely consider a season ticket. About £85 though I think they changed it now that you have to had gone to 4 league games to qualify to buy a ST.

That was sensational. Although I think Chelsea gave us a taste of what to expect next week in the last 15 minutes.

But in the spirit of enjoying the moment

Yamashita - Brilliant once again. Was worried about her earlier In the season but she looks so solid now

Ouahabi - Look she's not one for the future but even she did well today

Casparij - solid as ever

Aleixandri- Remembered how to play football. More of this please.

Prior - Looks like a hell of a player and one for England too. Playing with such maturity.

Yui - Yui is just Yui. No notes.

Roord - Roord was awesome today. Really got stuck in and supported the midfield in the way we've needed

Park - Amazing job at nullifying Walsh. It's not a fun job but she was great

Fowler - Baller

Kerolin - So excitng to see her acclimatising to English football. She's brings something totally different to Shaw and it's going to benefit the squad a lot going forward

Miedema - We are SO LUCKY TO HAVE HER

Murphy - Her quality is there to see. Brill to see a young player starting in a game like this and holding her own
Yamashita's handling and positioning was excellent, Her kicking not so much at times.

Casparij & Ouahabi - Neither inspire confidence defensively (although Kerstin has been better recently) but do offer options when we're in attack mode.

Aleixandri still has a propensity to dive in too much and this leaves the backline exposed as there is often little cover behind her when she does.

Prior definitely looks a good prospect and with work on her ball playing she could become a real player.

Yui - almost back to her best

Roord - best game she's had for a while and put in a real shift (I've slagged her performances off recently so credit where it's due)

Park - Did a lot of unnoticed work in containnig Chelsea's midfield

Kerolin - Best game in a City shirt (so far). Needs to learn to get back onside a bit quicker though.

Fowler - Such a talented player who we should enjoy while we have her.

Murphy - Was quiet for large periods of that 1st half. Gave Bronze too much respect and should've gone at her more.

Miedema - Absolutely world class finisher which showed in her 2 goals.

City seemed lively and motivated tonight whereas Chelsea, by its standard, looked slugglish. Everybody worked their tails off--just a huge effort--and the City press created a lot of turnovers. I thought not scoring in the first half after dominating play might be costly, but fortunately, the team stayed focused and active in 2H, and then Laia's great header and Viv's finish finally got City its deserved goal.

City got sloppy and, maybe, tired in the last 10 minutes and were a bit lucky not to give up the equalizer, as Chelsea had a couple of very good chances. Yamashita was good but she made a couple of terrible passes in the last 10 minutes--giving the ball to Chelsea 25 yards out directly in front of her goal. She did it twice--and each one created danger. That is a keeper no-no--at least get the ball out wide.

I saw Kerolin a lot in the NWSL and she's a good player, as she showed tonight. It will take an equally strong work rate to get a result in the all-important 2nd leg, as Chelsea will be super-motivated. One reason Chelsea is so strong is that it has so many literally strong players: Ramirez and James are not just talented by physical loads, and so are Bronze and Baltimore. Hard to move them off the ball. It was nice to keep them all quiet tonight. Great win, and it should be a nice boost to the team confidence level.

It always takes me a few minutes to find this board--it's kind of hidden among the various forums, no?

As for Murphy, I think she will be quite a player for us. I'd suspect she maybe was a little "awed" by Bright at first? Bright's been an international for much of young Lily's life. I think maybe in the future she will realise with the pace she posses she can burn Millie Bright whenever she puts her mind to it.

A change of coach.

Change of playing style.

Change (Improved) performances.

Improved energy, motivation.

Are you watching Pep ??

Ok. First half, I noticed that we were being kind of dominated physically. At least two or three times I saw one of ours simply being brushed off the ball like a feather, even when they had it under control at their feet. And I found myself thinking, “Oh for Bunny at this point”. Chelsea have got two or three players who are units. Not least our own once-of-this-parish Lucy Bronze.
And then… no. In the second half, it was as if something clicked, the girls said, “No fuck that, we're not having this”. (I wonder what the half-time talk was from Cushing). They were much sharper, much more on the front foot, much more aggressive into the 50-50s. We dominated Chelsea not merely technically — which we'd often been doing in the first half, to be fair — but even athletically.
If I lived in Manchester or the area I'd definitely go to the women's matches, at least sometimes. The women's game, while technically not as exciting as the men's, at least to my eyes, is still refreshingly free of all the things that are now such a blight on the men's game. Not least the more or less constant, organised and determined attempt to con the ref.

Although there are signs that those things are coming, even to the women's game.

What was the attendance ?

I looked it up. A bit more than 4,000. I was surprised, to be honest. I would have thought somewhat higher, for a quarter-final of the women's CL. I don't know what the capacity of the Joie is, but it wasn't sold out. Obviously, people have got lives to lead. And a tight budget, in many cases.

There is something wrong when the ladies play the rags and get 44,000 but play the chavs in the semi final of a chumps league and can barely muster 4,000 in a 7,000 stadium.

Just so. Puzzling. I strongly suspect that it's the men who swell the numbers for the derby, because they'll go along to see anything in the hopes of seeing the evil rags beaten. Were there many men there last night, though? I was paying attention, and there really didn't seem to be many.

On another topic: I've got a good friend, long-standing from college days, who strenuously objects to being called a “lady”. And I've got another good friend who strenuously objects to being called anything else!
Complicated, the wimmin, aren't they?
