I saw Senator Chris Murphy on the Daily Show the other night.

Hadn't come across him before, but I liked the cut of his jib.
Broke up with his wife and started dating a young media company mogul woman who's helping him with his social media development.

The kind of thing Democrats would have condemned in a Republican but goes unmentioned when a Democrat does it

But yeah, he is rising up as a new media darling as his new girlfriend is helping him.on the 'how to be an influencer' act. He also smells blood in the Democrats leadership waters so i think he is going to go for Schumer's job in the Senate.

The sharks are circling everywhere.

CNN senior data correspondent Harry Enten roasted President Donald Trump’s historically low net approval at this point in his presidency, exclaiming “Ay caramba!” at his status among other presidents.

*snip*

"Presidents with negative net approval ratings at this point of term since 1937, going back to the second term of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Well, there are two men on the screen, and they’re the same two men, Trump in 2017. And Trump in 2025, he only matches himself."

This time Trump won’t give a shit. He’ll make up his own popularity rating and he’s no longer worried about losing the next election because the MAGA enablers are clearly planning to have him as President for life with either no elections or Russian style elections where only his votes are counted. Every democratic safeguard against this is being dismantled in line with the Project 2025 plan. Only Trump’s own stupidity can scupper this.

Sometimes marriages break up, and the woman he's dating is 40 with grey hair.

I had to google it because why would any normal person care?

Need somebody in the US to answer @ChicagoBlue maybe, but is the losing US party necessarily expected to play the role of the opposition?
In UK there is an official opposition, whether they're f'ing useless or not.
As has been discussed, there is no “Shadow Govt” in the USA, but in a two-party system, the Dems are clearly “the opposition.” That said, as we have found with Republicans and MAGA, there are “wings” of the parties and they don’t always see eye to eye on how to govern or live in opposition.

This is where the Dems have had bigger problems than the Reps, as it has been clear that the Reps have needed to fall in line behind MAGA to get elected or stay elected, whereas the Left Wing of the Dems feels like they’re the future (young, feisty, often driven by students, and believing they represent the future of the country) and being held back by the entrenched old guard that have backed Hillary, then Biden, then anointed Harris. It’s why, in many respects, there seems to be no reasonable opposition to the shock and awe Trump is creating in Washington. However, it is Trump army of far right operatives operating in the shadows, whom he is allowing to completely reshape the country while he tries to be king, that are the force behind the throne. This “Holy Alliance” of Christian Nationalists, who even managed to get JD Vance as their VP and future President-elect as part of the bargain, who are running domestic cover for Trump while he blows up every convention in place meant to stop it from happening!

Against THAT threat, there is no serious Democrat response, and the country is literally relying on “the Courts” to hold the position as an “equal co-branch of government.” Trump has already tried to dominate that arena with appointments to the life time Federal Bench, but there are still judges who are willing to stand up to him, which is LITERALLY saving us from being a Dictatorship TODAY…and, sadly, the ONLY THING STOPPING HIM, as the law is the only brake against him extracting all the power!

I wonder if the downfall of Musk could be a catalyst for Republicans to grow a pair, they all have been warned off by him saying he will basically pay for an opposition to beat them to office,if he’s gone out the picture could that be a turning point to get republicans on board to get rid of Trump? Maybe I’m clutching at straws but I can’t see how this is going to end without him either dying of natural causes or he’s taken out, I quite literally think he could be end up going compelete dictator and go for Canada.

If he went for Canada what position does that put us in as it is part of the Commonwealth?

The Torygraph is struggling with a Trump conundrum of its own making. Having championed him into power they're now trying not to mention him.

Funnily enough, they did the same with Boris Johnson.

There is a serious issue with right wing politics in that it's now mainstream to be absolutely batshit crazy and in denial of the most obvious facts.

Which is a problem.

The Telegraph, going full Nazi:

If he went for Canada what position does that put us in as it is part of the Commonwealth?
No 3 letter intelligence service wants a rogue “richest man in the world” on the hunt for scalps. The problem gets taken care of…one way or the other, by someone or other.

This is, sadly, just the way the world works for those who won’t go quietly into the night.
