Russian invasion of Ukraine

Sir Keir Starmer's plan for an international force to support a ceasefire in Ukraine has been dismissed as "a posture and a pose" by Donald Trump's special envoy.

Steve Witkoff said the idea was based on a "simplistic" notion of the UK prime minister and other European leaders thinking "we have all got to be like Winston Churchill".

In an interview with pro-Trump journalist Tucker Carlson, Witkoff praised Vladimir Putin, saying he "liked" the Russian president.

"I don't regard Putin as a bad guy," he said. "He's super smart."

Witkoff, who met Putin 10 days ago, said the Russian president had been "gracious" and "straight up" with him. Putin told him, he added, that he had prayed for Trump after an assassination attempt against him last year. He also said Putin had commissioned a portrait of the US president as a gift and Trump was "clearly touched by it".

During the interview, Witkoff repeated various Russian arguments, including that Ukraine was "a false country" and asked when the world would recognise occupied Ukrainian territory as Russian.

I don’t class him as a bad guy ffs what has he got to do to be in that bracket

Stuff 23/03:

- Russian wives getting their husbands knocked off at the front to get their compensation. Nice.
- Those that go home injured get ostracised by their wives with the help of state lawyers. Again nice.
- 4 choppers confirmed shot down at previously safe distances from the front line.
- Russians complaining about being meat but doing nothing about it.
- Russian Pokrovsk front continuing to gradually collapse.
- Russian governor panicking in Belgorod.
The 4 choppers were 2 Mi-8 and 2 KA-52.
All 4 were on the deck in Belgorod Region.
Hit with HIMARS M30A1 rockets.

Slava Ukraini.

So the Russian nonces see a cease fire in the Black Sea as some sort of concession. The war isn’t fought there anymore as they know their Navy will get picked off by a country that doesn’t have any battleships, submarines etc.

Only real progress is all air attacks stop which is their only advantage they have at the moment.

Just West of Hlyboke,Kharkiv Region.
5 Russians came out of the tree line to surrender.
Russian drone appears and drops bombs on their own.
3 dead,2 injured.
A Russian in Ukraine is dying one way or another.

Heroyam Slava.

Letters of credence were presented by the new ambassadors of Sri Lanka and Guatemala, who have begun their missions in Ukraine.

We discussed important bilateral matters, and we look forward to strengthening cooperation between our countries and taking joint steps toward bringing peace closer for Ukraine

Today, we held meetings focused on diplomatic efforts. I spoke with Rustem Umerov. Yesterday there was a meeting with the U.S. team. Today, U.S. representatives spoke with the war team—that is, with representatives of Russia. After that, another meeting took place between the Ukrainian and American teams. I’m expecting a new report soon.

What we need is movement toward real peace—toward guaranteed security. And this is something we all need—in Ukraine, in Europe, in America, and across the world—everyone who wants stability in international relations.

Russia remains the only actor dragging this war out, jeering at both our people and the global community. To push Russia toward peace, we need strong moves and strong actions.

We are ready to support every strong initiative that can make diplomacy more effective—and that means applying pressure to force Russia to want to end this war. That means sanctions. That means support for Ukraine. That means international coordination.

This week, we’re also preparing substantive work with our European partners on concrete steps on security—joint steps. A significant part of Europe is ready for concrete security work — and that’s a good thing.
I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine

Stupid question (maybe), but why has the argument turned into that the war being a stalemate is bad for Ukraine? I can't think of many historical examples where the pressure has been on the invaded to break any form of stalemate? It's funny how things have turned, when Russia invaded Ukraine back in February 2022, who do you think would have been happier if they were offered the current situation at that exact time?
