President Trump

as I was saying

Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t, but even if he knew it’s just easier to say he doesn’t know anything about it and move on.
Why? Because he simply doesn’t care. His track record (‘dead losers’) and his body language here just scream it.

Well, this is hilarious. I've no idea how cases are allocated in the US, so if this is someone trolling the regime, or cosmic karma, but the same judge presiding over the illegal deportations case (1) has been allocated to the Signal group chat case (2).

In (1) the regime is arguing that the flights were so secret they can' give any details even now, like when they took off and landed.

In (2) the regime needs to argue that the exact timing of a military attack is not confidential!

The White House has posted video of the planes taking off. Very secret obviously. The WH spokeswoman said apropos the chat: “These were not war plans, they were attack plans” Right, lady.

The Atlantic printed the full conversation Goldberg knew the plans for the attack two hours before the planes took off.and consulted with the CIA for permission to print the full text they gave permission

Mike Johnson Speaker of the House has today suggested a remedy. He said “We can eliminate an entire federal district court”
According to Johnson the legislative branch has the power to do this. He was unable to cite where the constitution says this.
The shit is about to hit the fan and America may soon officially announce the end of democracy: Don’t like a court’s ruling? We’ll just eliminate the court then.
Maga tactics leave something to be desired. They are banking on SCOTUS to bail them out. If they don’t, will the executive eliminate SCOTUS too?
Hey SCOTUS, we have come to you because the trial courts no longer exist. Help us out, mates.
The end of America may not be close, but you can see it from here. Desperate times.
Congress has reorganized the courts in the past, but yeah, trying to eliminate the DC circuit would be something else.

That said Johnson tried to walk it back, and he doesn't have the votes anyway. He doesn't seem to be able to pass anything frankly. Probably not much longer before his relationship with Trump sours.

30 years married this year and we were considering America but it can fuck off

Spend my pounds for what they worth elsewhere
Been there loads before Covid, having visited 26 sates on various visits and loved every one. Met some amazing people too.

Have no desire whatsoever to go back for the foreseeable. None. Which I’m sad about for lots of reasons but equally it’s something over which I have no doubt. Hope that changes at some point though. I really do. It’s such a beautiful country.

I'm going to LA in September, to see Oasis. Its bucket list stuff, watching a gig at the Rose Bowl. I do now kind of regret not going to Chile or Peru, instead.
Don't forget to clear your phone of anything the yank immigration could consider as inflammatory.

Get rid of the match day thread, the Priced Out and Atmosphere threads and definitely the Muffin v Barm one

We were hoping to do one or more of Vegas, New York, and San Francisco in the next couple of years but when Trump got back in the other half said she had no desire to go to the States while he was president. I told her at the time that I thought that was a bit of an overreaction, explaining that going to any of those 3 cities shouldn't suddenly become less enjoyable now that he's President. In hindsight though, I think she's bang on with that view. Most Americans are great people but it only takes one encounter with some MAGA-loving loon in a bar or wherever and it could all go south.

My boss is off to Florida in a couple of weeks with his whole family and although he's a lifelong Conservative voter, even he's now having reservations about that holiday. He got into one spat with someone over there years back not long after the 2008 global financial crisis who incredibly blamed the UK for it.

I go to Detroit every year with my cousins for a Detroit Tigers game, but this year we have decided that we won't be going over the border and giving them any kind of money. We are going to a Toronto Blue Jays game instead.

Being Canadian this has had a very profound effect on a lot of people here and I am in full support of the Buy Canadian campaign going on here. I have tried my hardest to not buy even a single American product which is very hard to do grocery shopping here in Canada.

The difference is that previous reorganisations of the courts were agreed in bi-partisan votes in Congress. I don’t think Johnson was suggesting a democratic vote but rather a Presidential Executive Order.

I'm American and I wouldn't recommend anyone travel here at the moment. It's a big world, no reason to deal with this stupid shit if you can avoid it.
Inopportune for me but my daughter wants to go to New York in September (she's grown up and was going on her own) and I said I'd love to finally go and take my son as feel it would be good for him to experience too.

I've lived vicariously through all the movies I've watched growing up, the music I've listened to and have only done California (and Florida a long time ago). Take in a few of the boroughs and the usual sights and sounds, maybe try and grab a Kimmel show (et al).

But, seriously thinking about not going which would be a massive shame for all three of us.

Sorry to read that mate, but the truth, at least from a governmental point of view, is that they are no longer our friends.

Done any European cities together? Rome would be amazing.
