In your shoes I'd probably still go, just make sure to delete your socials and triple check your ESTA and read the .gov.uk to make sure you dont miss anything.Inopportune for me but my daughter wants to go to New York in September (she's grown up and was going on her own) and I said I'd love to finally go and take my son as feel it would be good for him to experience too.
I've lived vicariously through all the movies I've watched growing up, the music I've listened to and have only done California (and Florida a long time ago). Take in a few of the boroughs and the usual sights and sounds, maybe try and grab a Kimmel show (et al).
But, seriously thinking about not going which would be a massive shame for all three of us.
Once you're through the border you'll have a great time
