My granddad used to take my dad and my uncle to Maine rd and old Trafford all through the late 40’s and early 50’s.
Then my uncle got to an age where he went on his own and chose United and a couple of years later my dad chose City, and that was that.
My granddad by all accounts carried on going to both on his own for years afterwards in the 50’s and 60’s.
I think that’s lovely and although it isn’t something I’ve ever done or been tempted to do, I can understand why it was a much better way to live.
Somebody earlier nailed it when they said it was probably because thst generation had lived through a world war and seen what was really important in life. We’ve been mollycoddled in comparison.

Dad never ever hated United either. He only chose City to piss his big brother off, as you do.
He always said he couldn’t understand the hatred from either side and he used to get really mad at me when the derbies were on cos I’d be very vocal in my hatred. He just couldn’t understand it and always said it was because of the tragedy in 1958, he couldn’t get the hatred at all.

He was a better man than me that’s for sure and I’ve tried to mellow as I’ve got older to be more like him.

Just my two penn’arth.

My old fella and uncle used to watch both teams regular when they played at home in the mid 1950's.
After Munich in 58 my uncle started to just go to old trafford, as like many others he felt sorry for them, even my old
fella considered it.
Fortunately, when he started a family, sad as Munich was, he gave his head a wobble and brought myself and brothers up the right way.

Maybe some people did go to both grounds regularly but I don't know anyone who did and was a City supporter.

My first ST was in 78 in the North Stand, there was a few of the older generation who sat near us that said went to both.

Coming from Heywood us Blues used to have it with them all the time..... ?uck their pies

I think that Sir Matt Busby was utds' greatest manager ever.
Not in terms of trophies won of course, but the way he acted in the immediate aftermath of the plane crash and the way he rebuilt the team and got them to win the European Cup 10 years later.

Fuck me... Just read the article and had too admit to myself, what a fantastic piece of investigative journalism it was.

I then reread the piece and realised that absolutely fuck all happened.

Can I sue the Sun, for wasting my time?
Will Lord Pannick do a bit of pro bono?
