What level of security do you have when you go away on holiday?

We're off soon for a few weeks, is it a good idea to get a couple of cameras or something, what do people recommend ?

There's hardly any break-ins where I live but you never know.
I thought you meant take a couple of cameras with you.
If some smack head is going to break in to your house it'll make no difference if your in or out..I had my van broken into.
Outside my house.
6 o'clock in the morning.
Close to 8 grands worth of tools nicked..all the police said..which was over email by the way as no fucker would ring me back.
All they said was do you have cctv.
I told him next door has..he asked me to watch next doors cctv.
I told him to get out of the layby on the a6 trying to catch drivers doing 34 in a 30 and come to look himself..he never did just gave me a crime number.
Go on holiday enjoy yourself and forget about life here

I have fuck all, just insurance

If they robbing you, they robbing you

Who nowadays responds to a neighbours alarm.

What are cameras going to do if they really want to get in

All they will do is let you watch as they sniff your wife’s knickers
When the cunts did my van.
My daughter shouted someone was robbing my tools..I ran to her bedroom window and shouted you better be in that car when I get downstairs I'll kill you you fucking rats..I'll never forget seeing the little **** taking my hammer.
I know it's just a hammer.
But my grandad gave me that when I first started work.
33 years I had that.
I was more pissed off about that than the 8ks worth of power tools.
Fucking rats

I put time switches on lights so they may come on at 8 and go off at 11, say. I’m sure that deters anyone who watches thinking we are away. Other than that my windows all lock and my doors are security doors so if you drill out the lock you still can’t get in.
I live in a low crime area but a nearby house was broken into recently.
Are your windows hammer proof?

I only ask as that's the way the thieving cunts broke into my Mrs gaff.

She had all window locks and security doors etc etc

Made fuck all difference

Nothing is but thieves tend to avoid quality double glazing as they have to make a lot of noise to get through it. Professionals can always get in but are unlikely to target our house which shows no sign of particular wealth (unlike some just a stones throw away which change hands for £750,000 upwards)
Amateurs and Kids avoid difficult targets.

I got done about 5 years ago. Neatest burglars you would ever see. May have been City fans because there was a City coaster and toothbrush in my desk drawer and they respectfully put them back. There were 3 of them, I would say mid to late 20’s who spent 40 minutes in the garden looking in every window before entering .Weak link was poor fencing between us and next door and wooden windows. They only went in to about 20% of the house because it is a bit of a maize once inside with a main hall and 4 corridors off it that all look the same. Nothing nicked because they panicked with the alarm going off. The upgrade in security cost in excess of a decent house. As someone has said, if they are determined to get in they will. With all the new higher fencing coated in anti vandal paint and 8ft high and inter woven with prickly bushes I am working on the theory it may be easier for themto try else where. The police caught an Eastern European gang who had flown in do expensive houses in the Cheshire area. We had to look at stolen items just in case we had missed something. The CCTV showed them with similar clothing as to when they were arrested on another job but as none of their bounty was from our property they were never charged with our burglary.

Pop the sharks into the moat, lay the anti personnel mines in the gardens and leave the leopard to roam the house.

My missus takes 90% of our belongings away with us

It's always the way like me and the missus went Wales last year to golden sands caravan site, she brought two cases massive ones our caravan was 10 mins from the entrance, she's asthmatic and had an attacks so I had to carry them and my bag and some food we got from shopping.

She could've fit what she used in a bloody holdall though and been alright, instead she had to bring all of Aladdin's cave with her though it makes no sense.

I told her there's not a chance I'm carting that stuff again so the time after last autumn it was a lot lighter luggage, we went again just 2 weeks ago she got a friend of hers to give her a lift there and back and It was like moving house.

Women are off their rocker wanna take the world with them on holiday, whether it's to Wales or Mauritius it doesn't matter everything needs to come.

I mentioned this to a neighbour we trust and he is considering buying an alarm that detects movement in his drive and a speaker in his house emits the sound of a barking dog until the intruder leaves. I wonder what the milkman and neighbours would think?

Anyway, best advice is to have a car in the drive that nobody would want to nick, and keep the Porsche in a rented garage nearby. ;-)

I got robbed about 20 years ago . Fucker booted the front door in, scanned my 2 room bedsit and nicked a shitty little telly. Missed my hash though.

Well I live in a large enclosed Communal building which has gated security, CCTV, and tannoys/loudpeakers to put the wind up the odd intruder who strays in, so I don't really bother about security if i go away for a break, and i don't bother with contents insurance either ..... I haven't really got owt worth nicking anyway!

Happened to me when I lived in on the Brunswick estate, Ardwick Green, about 45 years ago, we were out at the time because it was christmas .... my brand new stereo record deck went missing, and a few bits of jewelry, before they got disturbed by my next door neighbours ..... a detective of mature years finally rolled up about two hours later, just told us to get a big dog, and claim on the insurance ... most of the time he was there though all wanted to do was look at the city photos on my living room wall, and talk about City!

The missus couldn't settle in that house after the break in though, and she decided that she fancied a complete change of scenery, and security, and that we were moving to Whitefield!

Brilliant.
Absolutely true.
We went to Gambia in January.
She spent a week packing her case and half the case I apparently needed.
In roughly 2 minutes
I put some shorts and some t shirts in the case.
Day time I wear city shorts
When I go for breakfast I go in last nights t shirt.
Night time shorts and a T-shirt.
At the most 6 pairs of shorts..7 T-shirts..and a pair of flip flops
Which I travel in..I took more stuff to give to the lads than I wore..she took a case and a half .
Easily one case worth of stuff didn't leave the case.
Makes you wonder sometimes why men marry women I'm sure gay blokes have it easier
Apart from in the bedroom stuff.

Only thing I bother to do is back the van up to the garage so there's no way the rats could nick my push back.
It cost more than the van.
But if they really want it the crack head cunts will find a way.
Pity they don't put that much thought into getting a job

Off to Barbados today until 11th April. I just leave the key under the purple plant pot by the front door - the one directly under the '10 King Road, Newton Heath' sign on the front of the house. We don't have any alarms or anything. I just stash the valuables in the airing cupboard in the main bedroom on the left as you go upstairs. I've done this in the same way for years. I'm very open about it and it's never been a problem - we've been burgled during fewer than 50% of our holidays.
