Rubbish players that you loved?

Good shout he was dogshit but we'll all love him forever for that Gillingham goal.

While not a top level player I think dogshit is a bit harsh. He scored a fair few goals for us, including that famous one and he always gave 100%. As Joe Royle famously said about him, he would chase waste paper all day if I asked him to.

Ricky Holden.

I can no longer think of Rick Holden without thinking of this article containing an extract from Peter Reid’s book a few years back. Many Blues will already know of this, but for those that don’t, here’s an excerpt from near the bottom that will hopefully make you smile….

———-

After we lost 1-0 at Spurs, [John] Maddock came in and said: “Rick Holden – it’s a waste of time having him out there.”

Attacking one of my players was a cardinal sin to me.

“F*** off, you fat c***,” I said.

“You can’t talk to me like that,” he replied, but I wasn’t about to back down.

A line had been crossed.

“I just did,” I said. “Now f*** off.”

Deserved far better did Peter. Last manager to have us finishing above those rag twats before Mancini. With the right signings we could have gone into that following season and pushed for top 3, who knows what would have happened in the first Prem season.

It's why I laugh at rags saying we've always been shit. We were finishing above you in 1991 you daft twats, and if it wasn't for that absolute wankstain Swales it could have been us mopping up the TV money and trophies a couple of years later

I know he's dead and all but Peter Swales can get to fuck, and when he's got there, he can get to fuck some more

Yet, comparatively, he was one of the poorest members of City’s squad and was let go pretty quickly.

Lots of poor players have played in finals.

He was with us for like 3 seasons and played almost every match, pretty sure he left because his wife hated Manchester. He was a first team player and a fan favourite.

Odd to rewrite history like that.

Also, he went to Milan, hardly a fall from grace is it?

Hs's always the example I think of when pondering whether it's possible to have a top-flight career based entirely on luck.

(Of course, I know there are far more precursor variables involved and love him to bits)
Funny thing is it seemed to turn for him big time all of a sudden -he looked hopeless early on but then out of the blue basically everything seemed to go in for him

Didn't he team up with Megson in midfield in his first season, or did I dream that?
I think he did, yes.

Simpson joined before the deadline at the end of 91/92 and Megson was still playing for us then.

I can’t remember exactly when Simspon made his debut, I seem to remember it was a 0-0 or something like that at home, but he was brilliant when we beat Leeds 4-0 at home in one of his first games for us.

Just never trained on, like many others at the time.

Fowler.

Turned a blind eye to how shit he was for us because of how good he used to be, and how much he hated United.

Not 100% sure he's classed as shit but I really like Nunes, even after that awful cross field pass yesterday
He is -and carries himself as if he’s not up to our level and knows it and is frightened of his own shadow but can do a bit as a RM as we saw yesterday

Sun Jihai is the only one that comes to mind

I usually dislike the rare few I think are completely shit
